Red Cross Book Sale

Every year our local Red Cross holds a gigantic book sale to raise funds. The event runs over three days and is extremely popular with the community. All books are donated and the event is manned by volunteers. It's the most well organised second-hand book sale I've ever been to.
This year's sale started Friday and today, Saturday, my friend and I ambled along after lunch. After an hour or so of browsing I came home with three books, all autobiographies or memoirs. Two of them are New Zealand people and the third is a Dawn French book, which I imagine will be fun to read.
Tomorrow morning my husband and I will return to the sale and spend another hour or so there. It's a great place to stock up on reading material, at the same time making a donation to a good cause.

Sounds like my type of place to go to! I could spend hours and hours rummaging through a book sale. Something of a confession, when I'm sad, I like to think things through in a book store.

i notice some people here go to bookstores to talk on their cellphone while pacing and pausing through the aisles.

With the advent of technology, it's good that there are still people like you who relish reading real books.

@valmnz That's very nice! We used to read whole books when I was in my elementary and high school years. After reading a whole book, we were required to make a written summary and do an oral report in class. I guess that helped much in having some mastery of the English language.

This is a great idea. It wouldn't work where I live though, since local libraries sell donated books and use the funds to buy new books for the library. Have fun at the sale.

It sure is a good cause. I saw on the news where donations of blood are way down and this is a hard time of year for it.

@valmnz ....Yes, but the country needs the blood. Wish I could give it.

@valmnz I don't think I have ever gone to a book sale and not found something. I have a weakness for cookbooks!!
