This is commonly known as "Brigada Eskwela" here in the Philippines. This is in preparation for the opening of classes this coming June and it is done annually. Parents, teachers and students join hand in hand in repainting the rooms, chairs and all other school facilities that are to be used for the coming academic year. Do you also have that in your community?

No, this is something that is done by our Government, we pay taxes for school maintenance.

This is voluntary, @LadyDuck but it seems some schools make it mandatory and other penalize those parents who can't attend. That's per @ida123 comment. I'll report them. @ida123, I just reported them to one TV program. I resigned from public school because of those illegal activities and I cannot tolerate them.

@LadyDuck, they ignored my text message and messages of other viewers. They were so busy interviewing new members of the new elected president. @ida123, I'll not give up. After few months, I'm sure they'll get tired of focusing to the new president alone. Time will come they'll entertain other issues. I'll report again and update you. I swear. Let's not give up.

@wittynet I understand that you could not tolerate those illegal activities. Something voluntary, must stay voluntary and not mandatory.

Yes, we have even if we don't have students attending schools, they require each household at least one representative to attend or we will be penalized P200.

@ida123 This is not legal because it is supposed to be voluntarily done. This should also be reported.

@cherigucchi Yes, that is true. Most household members here are complaining about this especially we have no students, we still have to attend the Brigada Eskwela so that we'll not be penalized. We have no choice but to attend because as what our Barangay policies, each household must have a representative to attend.

Does that happen only in public schools? I don't remember ever attending one.

@cherigucchi When did this program start? I went to a public school from Elementary to High school but never experienced such.

Well, the school is for the community so this should be a regular activity before school day opening.

What happens when parents fail to cooperate?

Its only on voluntary basis and besides each school has a General Parent-Teacher Association which helps in this project.

Ou goverment takes care of this type of maintenance or the administration of private schools. Parents and friends do raise funds for some things but not normally for these types of chores although they might have occasional 'working bees' for a special project.
