Such a Pain

I had plans for today. Well, to tell the truth, I didn’t. That was the point. I was going to putter around and do a few little things here and there around the house. Tomorrow I will be installing Windows 10 and Friday going to the optometrist. Today I was free, or so I thought. Then, when I opened my car registration envelope to pay online, I noticed the big Stop Sign. Sigh, It’s that time again, go get it smog checked. I looked up the closest place to go to where I live. It’s really only about eight minutes from my home. It’s the weather that’s the problem. It has been overcast all this month, and will be until past the due date for my registration to be paid. This means I’ll have to get the smog check now, despite the weather. These places never have an inside waiting room. So after getting my car examined and then paying at the Auto Club, which is also fairly close, I will not be feeling so great. This is an unwanted wrinkle in my plans and a real cramp in my style. Don’t you hate it when a plan does not come together?

I hate when my planned putter days are interrupted. I'm sorry you had to go out in yucky weather.

I wasn't out as long as I had expected. They didn't have time to help me today, so I had to set an appointment for Saturday. Maybe the sun will show up.

Yes I do. I hope you got it taken care of, and everything is good with the car. I remember having to do that when we lived in San Diego. I haven't needed to do that since I moved to the Midwest.

You don't have to pay car registration, or check smog?

@just4him My car is eight years old and my registration will run $170, plus the cost of the smog check.

@ElizabethWallace We pay car registration, just no smog check. We don't have smog here. In fact I just paid my registration in March to the tune of $75.

I'll take the overcast. It's been over 100 up here...

Yikes. That is what happens when you live inland in California. I spent my childhood and early adult years in inland valleys. No more, it's the coast for me!

@ElizabethWallace This is a lot better than when I lived in the valley. At least here it cools off at night.

@dawnald Valleys are the pit when it comes to weather. They get the worst of all seasons. Don't you just hate inversion layers?

Oops, sorry. But forewarned is a good thing. I have an appointment for Saturday, and will pay my registration on Monday at AAA.

@LadyDuck It's a good thing to set up some sort of alert in your tablet or computer, so you don't forget. I use a ledger and my iPad for reminders.

Ah, you must be on familiar terms with my friend, Murphy. I'm sure he has explained his "Law" to you. He likes to spread it around my life on a regular basis.

That does sound like a disappointment on a few levels. Its a shame that they do not have a waiting place for you while they perform the testing on the vehicle, we have to get ours tested every other year and you can wait while they perform the test, it takes around 20 minutes.

They acted like a thirty minute wait was unusually short when i made my appointment this morning. I told him that in all the years I have had cars smog tested, they never went over twenty minutes.

I was interested in reading this as I have no idea what you mean by a car smog test. We don't have them here in New Zealand.
