Painting the Garage

My modified paint brush

When we bought this house we knew the garage was packed to the ceiling with old furniture and junk. We could have insisted that the owner (actually it was their son) clean it out but it would have delayed the closing for the third time. We told them we would take care of it. The packed garage was both a blessing and a curse. Some of the furniture was in remarkably good shape. We hauled some of it back into the house and let both our sons go ‘shopping’ in the garage. The remaining pieces that were in good shape were donated to the Goodwill or Habitat for Humanity. We figured once the stuff was out of the way all we would have to do is paint and install garage door openers. We were wrong. There were holes in the walls and most of the baseboards were water damaged. My husband patched the walls and replaced the baseboards. Now it’s my turn. Chris HATES painting. I painted one wall last weekend, but the job I was dreading was painting behind the hot water heater. It’s hard to reach around the stupid thing. As I wanted to get it done, I tackled it this morning. On impulse, I duct taped the paintbrush to a thick dowel. It worked. The worst is behind me. It shouldn’t take long to finish now. Have you ever ‘extended’ your paintbrush to make a tedious job easier?

I use duct tape for so many things. I don't know how anyone gets by without it.

@BettyB That is true, when I see some men doing the painting before and after, it's a great feeling when we can see the nice effect of painting.

I think it would work painting behind a toilet as well. I'll find out the next time I have to paint a bathroom.

I love to paint and I do the same to "extend" my paintbrush.

Good for you for doing that I've attached many paint brushes on a dowel for many different reasons. Works like a charm.

That's the teacher in you getting creative to get the job done. I wouldn't have though of that.

No, but I will keep that in mind. I am sure there will come a need for it.

I've picked up a lot of great ideas from reading other people's posts.

Oh yes, but maybe easier with a roller.

I don't paint, but my husband has rigged up the roller to a handle to get where he needs it to go.

That would work. Generally speaking, I don't like using rollers. Its too messy.

Hubby does most of the painting here, but I could see him doing this if he needed to.
