Anyone have Apple TV?

My kids sent me Apple TV . Why they think I can install anything electronic I can't believe but they did. I spent a frustrating day figuring out a quite easy installation. I had to call my son and once I understood what to do, it was easy but it didn't help I didn't have a necessary cable so I must switch the input between HDM1 and HDM3 between my Direct TV and Apple TV but when I pick up the cable I will just use the correct remote. I am currently exploring what I can do with Apple TV. If you have it, what do you like best about it?

not me... it's the first time I've heard of it... is it related to anything Apple like iPhone and stuff?

@Jeanniemaries Yeah, my sons use Apple products too and they have given up on teaching me anything about technologies...

@sishy7 Well, I struggle but once I "get it" I'm good and I do like knowing it. It was much, much easier when they lived with me or nearby. But they are always available by phone! iPhone!

No, it's just made by the same people who make iPhones. My two sons are big fans of anything Apple. I knew I would be getting one someday, they have always given me Apple products and make me figure them out!

@Jeanniemaries I think our son in Ireland might have done something similar. They watch Netflix on their computer and can apparently get whatever they want so they have ditched the TV and consequently no longer need a licence.

@JudyEv I have a month to decide as I just paid my Direct TV a few days ago. I'm sure I will decide not to keep it. If I miss it, I can always turn it back on.

Yes, it's working fine, now figuring out how to best utilize it. It will be a big financial advantage if I can cut my Direct TV out completely.

I've never heard of it, but glad that you were able to sort it out for yourself. (I got your postcard today thank you Jean, and have sent one off to your mom).

@Jeanniemaries According to the postmark it took 4 days, it'll be interesting to see how long mine takes. As you say, it must be hard to outlive all your friends.

Apple TV brings Internet video to my TV. It comes with an odd remote. Half of it is blank, you just guess where to scroll up and down or select!! Weird. You connect Apple TV to your TV via HDMI, switch inputs to Apple TV and voila, you are accessing Web video apps on your nice big TV screen. Apple TV apparently has more than 50 “channels,” streaming stuff from Netflix, YouTube, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, MLB.tv, ESPN, Disney, ABC News, CNBC and more. You don't get everything, just access to the stuff that the channel makes available over the Web. I copied and pasted some of the explanation because I couldn't explain it myself even though I understood it ( only because family members have it).
