Do you have Windows 10? Are you using their new Edge browser? I'm really gettin fed up with that dang thing for some reason I keep gettin this same stupid message which ends up tyin it up for a couple hours, anyone know anythin about this dilemma ..... I'm back to using Chrome or IE, those never seem to get hijacked. So, who do I call?

I have used Edge for some time and have no issues with it. This appears to be some form of malware.

That's the impression I got but I run Malwarebytes on my system and it's the upgraded one ya pay for. Doesn't seem to be doing much to help does it.

@rebelann This is not one that I have encountered before, so apart from the obvious things such as system restore, I cannot suggest any specific action to take.

I have not installed Windows 10, but here I fear you really have a malware attack. I see that @Asylum already suggested all the right steps to do before a complete reinstall.

It is easy for me to suggest such action because I can use one computer while configuring the other. To me a clean install is the obvious step, but is not always easy for everyone.

I have only copied 1 file and a couple of the photos so far @LadyDuck and I also used Edge as soon as the reset completed. It was fine for a short while but then once again it became infected. Neither Chrome or IE was affected in any way.

@rebelann Did you copy back your files before using Edge? You should try the browser immediately after you did the factory reset, just to be sure that there is no infection in the computer.

Oh yes, I run Malwarebytes at least once a day if not more. Then there's my antivirus which is always on.

I was using malwarebytes too, but I need to renew it and have to wait for more money before doing so. I still got some malware slipping in even when using it and my computer person said that's because when I've downloaded new software, I've not paid attention to disallow the freebies that come with them. The freebies usually contain the malware. If we agree to install such, malwarebytes won't warn us.

Yeah, I've had that happen on my old PC so now I never download unless its from a site like the official Microsoft site or Adobe site, freebies are not worth downloading most times.

@rebelann It still takes reading as you go before installing as many will install certain decent virus protections, but they have other things added that are hidden. If we'd just install the actual program/software we're wanting and not anything in addition we'd be better off.

That's true @MarshaMusselman I usually uncheck those extras they try to install with the download I actually want.

I'll bet some of what those geeky types tell us to get our $$ is nothing more than whooey @DianneN now if one of the techies here on Mylot were to give advice than at least it isn't to gain your money which leads me to believe they are more reliable.

I hope they do a good job for you, I'll never trust the ones here again, they really goofed up my old PC ..... I think each area is different, here they tend to hire garage geeks with no real education on the subject of IT.

@rebelann The Geek came yesterday. Our hard drive is shot, so off we go with the tower today to replace it, save our important photos and documents, and wait. He said everything else was great and no need to waste our money, yet!

You would need to turn on the pop up blocker to keep that from happening. I looked around this town for Apple PCs but didn't find a store that sold very many of them, I think bestbuy had the really expensive ones which I cannot afford.

I heard many negative comments with Windows 10, that's why I stay on Win 7 up to this moment waiting for a great update or OS

If my old PC weren't in such bad shape I would have as well but I bought this PC new in January and my only options were windows 8.1 or 10, I have never liked 8.1 so I got 10, at least it is better than 8.1 but if you have 7 I'd stick with it.

The more I read about Windows10 the more I don't want it. What you are getting seems like a scam, doesn't it?

I agree. The problem when I was looking for a new PC was that I only had 2 choices, either windows 8 or 10 and I hate 8 so I got 10. If you have 7 stick with it until it's no longer being supported. Honestly, I wish they'd revamp Windows XP, that was a really good OS.

Thanks for the info @Marty1 but when I was looking for a new PC I only had 2 choices and since I don't like Windows 8 at all so I bought the one with Windows 10.

I use all of them depending on each ones situation, sometimes I'll have flash problems on Chrome so I'll switch to IE then that will have viewing problems so I'll go back to Edge .... hopefully I'll always have at least one browser that isn't having issues.

Well, that is in a way good, not that it's good mind you, because at least now I know it isn't JUST Edge. I have other issues with IE or Chrome when I use them but since I bought this PC with Win10 I've used mostly Edge. Thanks for that tidbit.

That is probably a wise decision. I bought a new PC in January and could have gotten windows 8 but I never have liked windows 8 so I took the one that had windows 10. I had been looking for a pc with windows 7 but they were no longer available by that time.
