Long Distance Friends

My title was once again spurred on by one of my responses to a post about the wonderful postcards we get in certain countries. Barry was fortunate to find a great selection while on vacation in Turkey for which WE are quite pleased. @Asylum In SA at the moment, postcards are only readily available at Tourist curio shops/outlets which actually infuriates me, because in Europe they are practically at every TABAK or Corner Cafe shop. . . . and dont get me wrong - SA have fantastic postcards, but so few outlets. I have a plan! I have decided to start my own design of postcards and use the families (Inge, dad and M) fantastic photos that you all haven't seen yet - those that would be good for travel attractions. I have already contacted a printer and it seems it will cost me one-hundredth of the price of buying someone else's depiction of my country. So give me a few weeks to have the photos correctly edited, then printed, and then all my LONG DISTANCE FRIENDS are in for a special treat. A Lany Original - maybe i should work on the stamp too . . . ha ha now i am being cheeky! My photo is of the little ally in Mykonos where I found many great postcards. What do you say to that?!

I had this epiphany yesterday - my hubby actually suggested it when we were traveling in Botswana - he said that I should do many on our Province as well as the country and leave them at Museums (for sale obviously) and check their sales once a month - I have my job cut out for me - but I am going to do this! with their help - Inge is gonna help me with the Postcard design and a box to put the photo information - they will be a production of Inlemay - as this is our 3 names combined.

If the blank card is available you could actually print your own and eliminate the use of a printer, although the ink costs may outweigh the cost of printing. It is only in recent months, due to sending postcards to some Mylot friends, that I have begun to realise how elusive they can be at times.

@Inlemay I do have a fair number of fridge magnets from various countries, but do not normally use them.

@Inlemay That should be no problem to a young girl like yourself, but rather limited for an old fool lime me.

I thought to print my own postcards and I would be pleased to print also my stamps... I am not sure that the authorities would appreciate about the stamps.

@Inlemay If I propose a design, may be (very may be) they would accept, but if I design the stamps, print them and use I am not so sure.

This is a great idea - and very sensible too. We already have a postcard of sorts with kangaroos on it - naturally.

a most brilliant idea, somethin' i've'd folks bug me 'bout fer a couple years - makin' postcards 'n note cards from photo's they've seen i've taken. i fear that i don't believe mine to be'f that "caliber", not e'en knowin' where to begin such a task. there's only one place i've found 'fer 50 miles that sells postcards 'n that'd be our lone truck stop clear'n the other side'f town. their choices leave lots to be desired, hopefully that'll change 'fter my conversation with the manager...but i'll not be holdin' my breath. i'd be most honored'n humbled to receive such a gift from yerself :)

@inlemay So few people i know ever send postcards now. I haven't received one in such a long time. Personal rather than commercial postcards is a good idea, a lot more meaningful, less generic than what's on offer in shops.

I am not really in it for the money, but we have a Museum that has no postcards, so when the sun is out again, I shall take my camera and go to the War graves - English/Spanish/German graves and take one or two against the great tree background, and we have a wonderful Game reserve as well, plus the First Historical house of 190 years old along the river. There are some great places to take photos. The I have many of our country as well. I am going to give it a go

That´s a good idea. I have designed some postcards in my Zazzle account. I think I have designed German postcards a few months ago as well. I will just check that tomorrow as it is already midnight here. BTW, I received your postcard last Friday. Thank you very much.
