When I was in elementary (Grade 5 and 6), i used to take my breakfast before i go to school.
That breakfast is not the ordinary rice and egg or dried fish of the traditional Filipinos or cereals and ham and bacon of the Westerns.
My breakfast is composed of rice, usually an old rice from last night's dinner, and a hot coffee. I first make the hot coffee on a separate cup (i prefer a sweeter taste), and after that, i will pour it into my bowl of rice.
And that's it! That's my breakfast back then!
You? What's your favorite breakfast food?
PS: What i mentioned is not my favorite...never ever LOL

Well, coffee in rice is certainly not my favorite food at any time of the day! That really sounds yucky! (But I don't normally eat rice, either!)
My favorite breakfast? Mmmm... that would have to be an omelet! With ground meat, cheese and chopped vegetables! Delicious!
I also like mixed fruits cut into chunks and eaten raw. Yummy!

@trivia79 Oh, yes, I KNOW how eewwie that sounds! Why do you suppose I won't eat rice?
Yes, I know where rice really comes from, but I was just a little kid when my brother told me that. He told me several things about foods we were going to be eating the day he told me how they were made.
He also got into trouble for that if he didn't tell me the truth, because I wouldn't eat whatever he lied about after that. Even though mom and dad punished him for doing that, it didn't stop him from telling me his version of where our foods came from until dad whipped him bloody. That was the time he wanted my slice of German Chocolate Cake!
We were butchering pigs and I saw mom catch the pig's blood in a basin. My brother told me that German Chocolate Cake was pig's blood, knowing I wouldn't eat my slice of cake... I still can't get those images of the foods he told me about out of my head. I still don't eat rice or German Chocolate Cake...
When I refused my slice of dessert that night, mom made everyone stop eating their cake until she made me tell her why I didn't want mine.... Steve didn't get my cake that night and wasn't allowed to eat German Chocolate Cake again until after he moved out of mom and dad's house. (The restriction on him not getting that type of cake hinged on me eating it, first. Then he would be allowed to have it, too. Since I never ate it again, he couldn't have it either. I still won't eat it!)
He told me a few others, too, but I can't remember what they are at the moment. I try not to think about any of those if I can help it.
Everybody in the world has some hang-up that everyone else thinks is strange or weird. The vast majority of hang-up are something we carry over from childhood, whether we remember where they came from or not. Those are just two of the hang-ups my brother caused me to have.

that was the last breakfast i prepared for my mother on June 12, 2009, before i brought her to the hospital. when hr body was lying in state here at home, i still prepared her a cup of coffee with rice and served it in the altar.

Hahaha I know some friends who love coffee + rice.
I am more of a tocino person, rice + tocino lately. But I could remember growing up with cereal + milk as breakfast :)

Yes, it is common for Filipinos to marinate their rice with coffee to make it soft. I still do it now specially if it goes with dried fish. I still love it.

@trivia79 No, it's not "bahaw," even newly-cooked rice. I don't add creamer, and it was brewed coffee from beans we gathered from our coffee trees. But we don't have coffee trees now. (This was long ago).

in contrary, it tastes very great. well, it depends on how you make your coffee. i make a little bit sweeter coffee for me then poured it into a bowl of rice.

I used to give my kids rice boiled with vegetables and a boiled egg with a spoonful of butter, This is the usual breakfast for school going kids here.
I thought it was healthy but the boys say they are glad they don't have to eat it any more.
