Why This Keeps Happening

Every time someone like Cristina Grimmie is killed in public by a stranger or a mass slaughter occurs like the one in the night club (also in Orlando), news reporters and others ask why. It’s a natural reflex. They are trying to make sense of it all. But there is no sense. This happens and will keep happening because monsters 1. Feel like doing it, and 2. They can.
The only way to stop this type of murder is to get real about it. Most of these murders were easy to commit. Someone walked into a public place, pulled out a “weapon of mass destruction” and murdered people. Didn’t we go to war because we thought a country was amassing such weaponry? Well, our country has people amassing these weapons. Where is our war against them?
Step 1. Stop selling military style weapons to the general public.
Step 2. Offer those who already own them to buy them back at twice the price.
Step 3. Stop selling the ammunition for these weapons to the general public.
Step 4. Offer those who already own it to buy it back at twice the price.
Step 5. Find another incentive for the remaining owners of the weapons and ammo, so that more will be turned in and destroyed.
This will not stop monsters from doing killing people, but it will reduce the number of people they can murder at one time. Let’s start calling it murder too. Let’s stop using words that glorify or justify these behaviors. Let’s stop showing the pictures of the murderers. Let’s stop giving them fifteen minutes of fame by printing their names. Honor the victims, not the criminals.
What else would you suggest to stop or slow down such crimes as were committed in Orlando recently?

Funnily enough I have just more or less said the same thing. Who on earth needs to buy an assault weapon let alone even own one. It is ridiculous that these are even on sale to the general public. It is crazy beyond belief. I would immediately ban the sale of these weapons. Congress should be doing it tout suite! No debating Just do it.

@garymarsh6 - I agree with you completely. Who needs to buy an assault weapon?

We used to have a ban on this type of weaponry, but it expired. It's no coincidence that slaughters using these weapons spiked as a result.

Well, you are close. It's the NRA they fear. Calling them terrorists is a little extreme, but perhaps accurate.

@ElizabethWallace Someone with ISIS affiliation who bragged about it, cased the club for security, went and shot over 100 people in a nightclub. That is terrorism. Why call it something else? We can be nice to the enemy but when you kiss a snake, you will die.

@ElizabethWallace - I agree that the government seems to fear the NRA more than terrorists.

There doesn't seem to be a clear answer to how this problem can be resloved.

The most recent monster had been checked out and cleared. Oops. But, if he could not buy such weapons, he would have killed far fewer people at least.

@Marcyaz There is no simple answer about why, except that they want to do this, but keeping weapons of mass destruction out of the hands of the general public has been proven to work at reducing the number of people killed. It has worked in the past. There is no reason to believe that it wouldn't work again.

I agree that these assault rifles and other rapid-fire types should be restricted in their sale. It won't stop the black-market trade but anything must help. Over here, speed camera locations are broadcast so people can slow down when approaching them thus avoiding getting caught for speeding. What is the point of that? Everyone slows down for the camera then speeds up again. They are not 'real' about trying to lower speeds. It's more like some kind of game.

I agree with everything you said. In addition, when anyone has an assault type weapon in their possession and commits any type of crime, the weapon should be confiscated. Anyone who is convicted of a violent act, for example spousal abuse, and owns such a weapon should have it confiscated. It would take a few years, but we could eventually eliminate the ones that are in most danger of being used in a malicious way.

I think people need to pay attention more. Like alerting the police if something doesn't sound right.
