Your vehicle is not a safe place to leave your wallet or purse

It seems like every day there is a story on the news (local or national) where someone stole a wallet/purse with credit cards out of unlocked vehicles. Some vehicles parked in the person's driveway and some in public places like store parking lots.
People - why are you inviting a theft? Leaving a wallet or anything else of value in your unlocked vehicle is stupid. Take your valuables inside your home - and hopefully you don't leave your doors unlocked!
Another thing that drives me crazy is when ladies leave their purses in shopping carts, whether at the grocery store or big box stores. They walk away from the carts and anyone can grab those purses and be gone in the blink of an eye. Don't assume anyone is honest and that its OK to do that. Think. Think. Think.
I don't want to hear on the news this evening about you being robbed.

Really, they would take the wheels off? Wow, that's scary.

@AbbyGreenhill It also happened to us. They removed the new tires and put on old thorn out tires. The insurance covered, but we had the annoyance to go to the police, then to the garage to change the tires and wait 30 days to be refunded. Well, that time we were lucky, because the Mercedes was stolen even if it was closed in a garage.

@LadyDuck Wow, I guess crooks will steal anything that isn't nailed down.

not just wallets, but laptops, electronics, bags, etc, although I do like when the crooks use the camera on the stolen phones and record their crimes like idiots

Anything left in a vehicle is up for grabs, but money/credit cards is the biggest worry. There are too many stupid crooks - which in a way is a good thing that they are dumb.

@AbbyGreenhill I swear, if some Crooks put the amount of work they do into being into a criminal into actually doing something worthwhile they would already be millionaires

That's correct, we are each responsible for protecting our money.

I must admit sometimes I leave my purse in the car (even though the car is locked) - but that's only because I take my change purse in the store with me, which has my money, debit card, license, everything....and really there's nothing good in my regular purse. Unless a robber would be interested in stealing some gum, gum wrappers, lipstick, and a bottle of Ibuprofen.

If they break in it's not because they want gum, they see a purse and think money. So you still go through the mess of having someone break in.

I know!! My grandmother told me when I was a child never to turn your back on your purse in the grocery cart. And as for leaving a purse in plain sigh in a locked car....just say "Help Yourself!"

Thank you for giving us a heads up ! I guess it may be due to the fact that some people are in such a hurry that they leave them behind.

When your purse/wallet contains credit cards, personal info. forgetting it in a vehicle is not a good idea....people need to think.

I agree it is not wise to leave wallets and pocket books in cars. I use to set my purse in buggies as I shopped, but not anymore. I remember, some years ago at a grocery store, I set my purse in the buggy and an old woman told me not to do that. I thanked her for telling me and learned a lesson that day.

As long as we have shoulder bags carrying the bag with us is not a problem.

I could have had three purses the other day at the grocery store and they would never have known it was me.

I agree @AbbyGreenhill I have a long strap on my purse that I can loop around and have my purse right in front of me. Someone would have to cut it to get it off. I see that all the time at walmart, purses just sitting in the card, it's an invitation for thiefs.

You would think people would be smarter - we know they aren't. Those who leaves purses in carts are just pure lucky so far.

A crook will take the easy way - and leaving things right there is the easy way.

I see this too, all the time. When I drive my elderly tenants to town they ask " can I leave my purse in the car?" I always say NO! I don`t need my window busted out for a purse.

I see women at the grocery store every single week leave their purse in the shopping cart and walk away. And that just drives me crazy. I have a cross body bag that I always wear to the grocery store so it's on my body and I still have both hands I can use. And i'm sure I have a lot less money to be stolen than anyone else in the store. but they won't learn unless something bad happens. And I really hope nothing bad ever does happen.

Have you ever thought of saying something to those women? In today's world I guess we might be afraid they might react badly.

@AbbyGreenhill I've considered it many times. I even considered going over to a carriage and standing there by her purse until she came back to let her know how vulnerable it was to being stolen. But then I thought they might suspect me of something untoward and I just walked away. In today's society, we just don't know what kind of reaction we will get, even if we're trying to help someone.
