A visit to the vet ended on a high note!

Ruby was due for her annual check-up and shots. Right around the same time we got the reminder for that I noticed a lump on her side. When I tried to show it to my husband I couldn't fit it...but I did find one on the opposite side.
It turns out she has one on each side of her body, up near her arm pits. Our previous lab had a ton of them and hers were fatty tumors. I was hoping Ruby's lumps were the same thing. I was right! The vet said they are fatty tumors...and since Ruby gained 6 pounds over winter (she's now over 76 pounds) if we get her to drop those pounds the lumps should get smaller.
I sure felt a lot better when the vet gave her diagnosis! You have to keep an eye on your pets' bodies and any changes should be checked out by a vet. We lucked out, thank goodness!

Glad it isn't anything major! I guess Ruby will be on a diet this summer. With all her swimming, she'll get down 6 lbs in no time!

She gets a lot of exercise, but too many tid-bits!

@AbbyGreenhill How much are you going to cut down on the tid-bits?

Thanks. We very seldom have a health issue with her. Our last lab by the time she was 5 had everything under the son wrong with her - hip dysplasia, she had both knees fixed, ringworm and the list goes on.

@boiboing That's funny, I've never heard of him....so if I see someone throwing Ruby toward one of the alligator turtles that lives in the pond I should worry?!

@AbbyGreenhill I'm a big fan of the American humorist David Sedaris who does a fantastic monologue about feeding a 'lipoma' to a snapping turtle. It's weird where and how I learn things.

So glad to hear the lumps were anything real serious. We watched our cats but they are healthy and happy. Thank goodness.

you never know, we have a dog with heartworms so she gets some pretty bad lumps and bumps now and then

She's a beautiful girl. She reminds me of a dog I had once when I lived in CT.

Mildred my cat and I are both very happy to hear that Ruby is doing well and that you are relieved. It's always such good news to hear our pets are doing OK.
