This is my grand daughter Faith and she left yesterday on a missions trip to Guatemala with 50 other people from their Church.
My daughter got a call from her early this morning and their group arrived safe and sound at a church members house where they will be staying all week. Thank you God!
It was no surprise to hear that it was raining, but she said the forecast shows rain off and on all week long. Tomorrow will be a fun day so prayers that they have good weather to see the country. On Monday they will start building 6 houses, prayers that they are able to accomplish all the work they came to do this week and that the weather cooperates!
It is so cool that by the end of the week, 6 families will be moving into their new home, which will be furnished with a few basic essentials.
I am so proud of Faith that she is a part of this , she is only 16 years old!
Photo is of my grand daughter as she was getting ready to head to the Airport.

That would be cool to go to another country...and for so long! I always thought of mission trips to be out of the country...and never thought I could go on one. Finding the opportunity to come to go to the one I just came home from imn Arizona I felt b=very blessed. I wish we would have stayed longer than one week.

@gr8nana6 Yes I bet you are. Often people knock youngsters before they have even been given a chance. So good on her she will learn a lot from this!

So grateful to see the younger generation getting so involved in service to others. It gives me hope that there is still a lot of good left in the world. Hope she has and her group have a great time and accomplish wonderful things during their time in Guatemala!

@gr8nana6 I hope they keep up the good work! And I hope many others see their efforts, and then also get involved in service. Nothing better than modeling the behavior you want to see in the world. Everybody may not join the bandwagon, but some will! Very inspiring!

I went there two years ago with the Church of God in my area. We work with a missionary that's lived there for forty years, but the guys don't get that many houses built in a trip. This past year they did more than normal as they refurbished a staircase that was falling apart, and built on an extra area for a water reservoir.
The Church of God in the area all work together by sending a handful of people for ten days and piggy-back their time there one with another. It's a poor area and I don't think they could afford to put up that many homes in one visit.
When I went, we taught the women and older girls how to sew and spent time with them.

@gr8nana6 I wonder whether all the Church of God churches support various missionaries around Guatemala? I'd have to ask our pastor. He's from Ohio and would probably know. I'm sure the mission your group is supporting is a different one than this church does.
