No Time to Write

My hibiscus are blooming

I had good intentions. I need to write every day. I have found over the years that if I don’t write every day, I get out of the habit of writing. Why is it easier to maintain that schedule when I’m too busy to even think? One of the things that I thought seriously about before retiring was my writing productivity. The busier I am, the more I write. Now that I’m not working, instead of writing more, I’ve been spending my time doing a hundred and one other projects instead of writing. I’m not ready to panic. I’ve always spent my summers getting caught up on all the things that I let slide through the school year. I hope that’s all it is. We have out of town guests now, so I guess I’ll write tomorrow or maybe next week…

I hear you. I've been slack on my writing too. I'm hoping to get fully back to it after my move.

@BettyB So do I, and here I sit. Though I also need to get in gear and start packing up some more.

@just4him Lately I can come up with a hundred excuses not to write. Once my company leaves and the trips we have planned, hopefully everything will shift back to normal.

There always seems to be something. We have company now and a couple trips planned for later this summer. I can't totally blame it on outside influences. Writing takes discipline. I have the time to sit down and write, at least some.

Now that you have enough time, I do hope you will be able to write as much as you can. I try to write on my journal but these days, I've been too busy I've missed a lot of pages.

A journal is a good thing. I try to start the day out with that, but like you, I've missed a few days.

I have no compulsion to write, I just dabble on here when I feel like it. However I know that you are a serious writer, so I hope you manage to get back into the habit soon.

I'm not overly worried. I rarely get a lot of writing done in the summer. Now if it continues into fall, then I'll worry.

I'm leaving most of the entertaining to my husband. They talk about people I don't know. I'll go with them some but I sent the two of them off by themselves today.

Hope you will not lose interest in writing. Like you, when I felt lazy writing, I do some offline projects like sewing, gardening, etc. that I find interest in.

I like to think its because its summer and I've always used summer to catch up on other stuff. If I'm not writing again by September, I'll panic.

You're right. My husband knows how important my writing is to me. He'll give me the space once the novelty of having me home all day wears off.

That's understandable, I'm sure that you were extra busy this year before the school year ended. I love the picture of the flower here.

Thanks. My hibiscus are doing well this year. And yes, the end of the school year was far more hectic than usual. I also have a lot of projects and trips planned every summer. This one is no different. The routine will come again.

I retired so that I'd have time to write. Writing? Time? What are those things!!!???

Take a few weeks to do the "essentials" and after that you could always establish a routine for your writing.

I figured that would happen, but I love to be busy. I just need to develop a little more structure to the day.

Finding that balance is never easy. I always mean to get certain things done in my off time, but I always seem to find other things to do. Eventually I will find that balance. At least I can hope.

I think it's harder to keep up writing ..especially in summer... plus all the things that keep us away from writing..give us topics to write about...lol I like your photo...

Well keep trying, I'm sure you'll get back into it eventually. You did write this one at least, so you've gotten your new start already.
