Finishing It In One Sitting

I remember the day when a friend of mine had lent me a book, the Hindi edition of 'Freedom At Midnight',by Diminique Lappierre and Larry Collins. It was a thick book consisting of more than 400 pages.I started reading it in the evening and found it so interesting that could not put it down before the dawn. Similarly another book I finished in just one sitting was one about wildlife adventures. It was in Hindi.I forgot myself while reading it and when I finished it,the sun was rising in the east. Whenever I find such interesting books,I forget everything. Have you ever finished a book consisting of 400 plus pages in one sitting?

I have read a book very fast, but not in one sitting that I ever recall my friend. It must have really been a good one for you to do so.

@TiarasOceanView,Exactly.The two books I read in one sitting were extremely interesting.I read the first sentence and then couldn't put them down until I reached the last word of the last sentence.

@else34 I have finished a book consisting of around 250-280 pages in one sitting but never further than that. You must a be a real avid reader Sir. But I would definitely like to try to do the same as you even if for once. The day I do it it would be nothing short of a feat achieved for me.

@The_Bong_Woman,Let me tell you one thing, you needn't be an avid reader to finish a 400 + page book in a single sitting provided the book you are going to read is interesting and you have time. When I read the two books I was unemployed and the books were very very interesting.

@Marty1 I have realised you are a great book lover and am sure you can even finish a thick book in a single sitting.Lack of time is certainly a problem.

No, because I either don't have the time or even if the book is gripping, reading makes me tired after a while. I remember putting a book down because I couldn't keep my eyes open, yet the scene was very intense.

@Carmelanirel,I can understand.Much depends on your habit.I have been used to reading books for hours.Perhaps that's the reason why I don't have any problem. And if the book I am reading is an interesting one and I have time,Then I can't put it down until I reach the last word of the last sentence.

When I find a really interesting book I can read for hours, but I don't think that I have finished a book with more than 400 pages in one sitting. It would probably take me two days to finish a book with 400 pages.

@Marty1 If the book is really interesting I sometimes finish it in two days. Sometimes it takes me longer because I am busy with other things, but I try to read a much as possible in my free time.

@else34 Yes, that is the problem. I would like to read several hours each day, but I have many other activities. It is nice to read many hours when we have time. When I go on vacation I always bring a lot of books.

@Porcospino,I can understand.Actually we all have a lot of other works to do and we can't spend all our time in reading a book. When I read the books I mentioned in this discussion,it was evening time and I had nothing to do.I had a lot of time and the books were very very interesting.

The few books that I have read have been read in lapses of time. I have read no more than ten pages at a time.

@quantum2020,I think it all depends on habit and the interest it can generate in your heart. If a book is very very interesting, you'd go on reading it until you finish it.

I used to be able to do this but once I married and had kids I stopped reading because I would forget everything else and it wasn't a good thing. I have got back into reading again now we've retired but I don't read all night any more. Sometimes it is nearly impossible to put a book down, isn't it?

@JudyEv,Yes,after marriage it becomes very difficult to follow old habits no matter how good they are. However now you are retired and have a lot of time to read. You are right, when you read a book and find it interesting, you can't shut it before you reach the last word of the last sentence.

@Marty1 As I have already mentioned in my discussion, one of the two books was,'Freedom At Midnight',an account of the last phase of India's struggle for freedom and the partition of India. The other book was about wildlife adventures. You may download 'Freedom Of Midnight' from the internet.
