NOSY PERSON or IS IT PROTOCOL - Asking where you live.. but you can't lie either.

I had a doctor's appointment a few days ago and had 6 tubes of blood drawn for my annual physical wellness appointment!! The laboratory to get my blood drawn is on a different floor, I have to sign in again and prior to getting my blood drawn, I have to answer some "security-like" questions like my birthdate, phone number, which doctor I visited.. And then I'm shown into a chair to get my blood drawn. Now on to the question: NOSY PERSON OR IS IT PROTOCOL? Most of the time, I will always get the question, So do you live around here? And you can't technically lie as your street address is all over the chart (underneath your name). I don't always give specific locations but I would just refer to a gas station. Like, I live near a Shell and there is like 3 Shell Gas Stations in the area. I wonder if the person drawing blood is nosy? Or is it apart of their protocol, just to make sure I'm really the correct person. I have had that kind of question brought up many times. Do you ever get people asking where you live? Or do you ask people where they live? What do you typically tell them?

I just asked one of the decorators where she lived. It turned out that she lives in my brother's town. It depends who asks.

Yes! Definitely depends. The man then asked me what I do for a living afterwards. I think that's a little nosy though

Yes they do ask and also ask your birthdate and if you have been to Africa in the past 30 days. It is protocol.

@infatuatedbby Here every time you walk in a doctors office the African question is the first one they will ask you.

I did not get the Africa part. After the basics, do they ever ask you where you live as a conversation topic? Then, he asked me. I asked him back where you live. He said in the area too and I talked about that's convenient for you to get to work. Then he asked what I work as..

@Marcyaz I never got that question! I go to Sharp hospital.

That sounds odd. I never had a doctors office ask where I live. They have all that information in their computers. They already know that. I would say nosy.

He followed his question, by asking me what I did for a living after. So I think it is nosy. I did ask him where he lived back (not because I cared) but because he asked me!

@infatuatedbby Well, some people just want to know too much information. and some people use that information against us.

I get my blood drawn at the VA. All I have to do is show my veterans ID.

They should just ask for my ID then to have me verify questions in front of everyone, lol.

I think most are trying to have idle conversation with you. I don't recall being asked where I live. Yes, it is all over the chart if they'd open their eyes they'd see it.

@infatuatedbby that I often get asked. I work for the VNA so I don't mind telling people. They need notoriety.

I hope so, but afterwards he then asked my occupation. No need to ask! I think it's rude to ask someones occupation if you don't know them.

The only people asking where I live is the banker and my telecom service. They have to know exactly where I live to deliver my new phone, card, and of course bills.

I think it is protocol of them to ask , since they have to fill up some data in their logbook or journal . They have to know something , about the person they are dealing with , for references .

@SIMPLYD I hope so! He then asked me what my occupation was which wasn't necessary.

I am not sure if its protocol or just so happens most of the time I go to the doctors they like to ask where I live but my address is on my profile already.

@infatuatedbby Then it means they are just double checking if you are the same person indicated in the laboratory requests .
