I don't understand the Gluten free diet trends of people with no Celiac disease.

People with Celiac disease stay away from food with Gluten, wheat or flour. They have an allergic reaction that could be fatal. That is why they avoid products and food that is not Gluten free. Recently though I noticed that people with No Celiac disease are living the gluten freestyle like it is the next diet fad. I understand the benefit of going organic, vegetarian, raw vegan and being a hunter gatherer but I will never understand people going gluten free when they don't have flour allergies. I started to see people who will blindly but anything with the label Gluten free.

I have seen this too but it is not supposed to be a particularly good thing. The more things we deny our bodies the more they are likely to reject at some stage. If you are not allergic to something it is not necessarily a good idea to cut that food from your diet.

to make it more disturbing, celebrities with no Celiac disease are glorifying these so called gluten free products. I mean Gluten is not really that bad. People had been eating flour centuries. Then there are people who scams people with this fad. I just saw places offering: Gluten Free haircut Gluten free soap Gluten free massage Gluten free drink ummm who puts floor on drinks, soaps, massages and haircut. Some people are too stupid buy anything with the name "Gluten free " on it,

@CaptAlbertWhisker Some people have absolutely no sense at all. You are right in saying that gluten is not that bad. The only people who have trouble with it are those who are allergic or intolerant.

Well, people may not be "allergic" to it exactly, but apparently some people have a reaction to it which may trigger illnesses. Apparently the quality of wheat, nutritionally speaking, is poor from these "industrial" crops through the years . . . and then when it's totally processed like flour its even worse (the body turns it into sugars). I will never be completely free of gluten or meats or whatever, but we are trying to include more "whole" foods in our diet - food in it's natural form if possible - least amount of process. Flour is processed wheat. Hubby and my daughter have certain skin issues, and it does seem like the less gluten they have, the less flare ups they get. My friend and her family are completely gluten free. She doesn't have Celiac disease, but she was diagnosed with something else (forgot what that was). After going gluten free, the doctors were surprised that condition literally went away - she claims she is more energetic and has actually slimmed down (she didn't do it for skinnying down). Another friend had terrible headaches for years and then was recommended to go gluten free. The headaches went away completely and she has remained gluten free (she started before the fad). So I can understand and see some of the justification for gluten free. It does do some people good. We aren't entirely gluten free, but we do intentionally eat less of it as possible (like I said, eat more whole foods, less processed anything). Ok, but gluten free haircuts - that's just too out there. It's just like the Fat Free stuff . . . some things are no brainer fat free but they include that on the packaging because that is a fact (no fat but unhealthy in other ways).

@CaptAlbertWhisker Maybe it's the amount we eat here too. A lot of people eat WAY too much food - and perhaps it's a matter of how much of everything we eat. We have a lot of cheap, processed foods that are available - and by necessity and budget many people have to eat this junk - and the rest just choose to because it's just way too convenient. Ohhhh, GMO is a big issue here, is it not out there?

@much2say We have issues with pesticides but we dont have issues with GMO. We dont have complaints about cancer causing vegetables nor allergy causing flour. We don't have a glutenfree market here.

We also eat bread here but we don't really have issues of allergies here. It may have something to do with the kind of flour we use here. Also GMO is kind of big in the US.

I also do not understand all the craze for new supposedly healthy diet. There are many factors to longevity and good health. For us here in Singapore, we have access to good medical care, but our lifestyle is so stressful. Stress is something that no diet can get rid of.

@CaptAlbertWhisker haha, you sound like you are suffering from withdrawal symptoms. A bowl of meat soup will leave you happy and relax.

You know what is weird? Gluten free is not a thing in Many countries. So it means American flours are problematic,

GMO foods is not that much prevalent in our country at this moment. There is a monsanto branch here but they were not powerful here.
