First tomato of the season!

United States
June 26, 2016 9:57am CST
When I went outside earlier I didn't expect to find a ripe tomato, but I surely did! This is the first ripe one of the season. It isn't huge, but it was perfect. It was picked, washed and eaten while it was still warm from the sun! This is just the first of many as there appears to be several hundred on the two plants. The hot sun and and high humidity isn't hurting those 'maters at all. PS: Yesterday it was 98 degrees and the humidity was a killer...today will be the same. Photo belongs to me

Lucky you, I see plenty of green tomatoes, but I think we have to wait at least a couple of weeks to see the first ripe ones. Today is less humid and not as hot as yesterday. It's bearable.

@AbbyGreenhill I can hear the thunder right now and if it's rain I will not complain, it's 6:40 PM and I would skip to go out and water the veggies.

It is a nice big looking tomato and you have the perfect time to go out and pick some more. Several hundred then you will need to be doing some canning. That was a hot one here to yesterday and our humidity was high here also.

We don't can any more - these really aren't the canning type. We will eat as many as we can and feed a few friends and neighbors.

Nothing like eating them straight from the vine. We've just cooled down to the 90's after a hellish heatwave.

They say the humidity will leave for a few days which will make it feel cooler, at least for two days. 90 is better than 98.

The first thing the photo made me think was-there's a photo of a tomato on our kitchen counter. How did we get the same counters? Hmmm...You have wonder taste!

@boiboing I don't like what the smell of the vines does to my fingers.

We picked two varieties that claim they don't all come in at once, which is usually what has happened in prior year. Right now we have tiny tiny ones, large ones, and all sizes in between.

That first tomato is always a bit special. It eventually got too wet and cold for ours and I've pulled them out.
