Many people get all excited about their birthdays, especially so, the young people, the kids among us. Birthdays are lots of fun. As I once observed, that first birthday was likely celebrated quite barely Then came the other birthdays along the way of which not all that many are remembered. Not remembered, true enough, but each can be counted into what can become a big total. Just hit 85 the other day. Made me consider things that are seriously un-serious - like age, for instance. * * * * * * * * * * The Birthday Boys The day arrives, and the cake is made. The world moves on. (Bills to be paid.) Those old shoes still fit on both feet, and birthday music keeps its beat, and, through it all, this is the day when Birthday Boys can smile and play. They're older now, but no more wise, allergic now to exercise. sitting, smiling ( once or twice ) while handing out much free advice: " Age comes to you. It comes to me. Youth ran away. Just let it be." So, what's the game for Birthday Boys, the game they play with no new toys? It's "Getting Older by the Minute." Not much more is found within it, that game we learned from babyhood, When we get old, we've learned it good. * * * * * * * * * * Image source: Pixabay dot com

Allergic to exercise is hilarious thought - I love playing bowls and I am the youngest in my group of 30 ove the age of 70's - They keep me young. Great poem

@Inlemay - Okay - A different kind of "bowls." As for me, I go for bowls full of cheerios and banana slices. Just had a funny though about your lawn bowl stuff. Imagine this: The bowlers walk up to the lawn for some bowling. There on the lawn is a great big. bright red sign that says, "Keep Off the Grass Under Penalty of the Law. This Means YOU" Oh well. such is the way of things. Bye-the-way, I am also allergic to signs.

@Inlemay - - Exercise is a real sneeze, but, as for me, I am allergic to praise. I have to take big square pills to be able to keep on breathing when nice people tell me my doggerel is "great." As to playing bowls, I did that one time back a few years ago. I did not do well. Later, I learned what caused the difficulty. The bowling ball was flat on one side and it had only one finger hole. (Live and learn, right?) I hope that you are having a pleasant wintertime at the moment. Here it is close to 100-degrees, F., and the relative humidity is not far from that number as well. Gus

@rebelann - Best thing for you would be to NOT be sharp when you reach 85. My bride is always yelling at me for cutting up the chair cushions on which I sit with my "sharp butt" (as you might call it. Being dull has its good aspects. (I almost said "points" right there...)

@vandana7 - Ms Vanny - Thank you. The older a person gets, the more they forget... Birthday? What birthday?

@toniganzon - Howdy Toni - Thanks. I am currently working on my next one. You need to get it on with your next one, too, but I am going to be early now and tell you "Happy Birthday, Toni." May rice always fill your bowl and big fish always be at the end of your fishing line. (Also, watch out for those crazy-painted "taxi" cars.)

Briliant poem Gus, and happy belated birthday. I would dispute the 'no more wise' - definitely not so in your case.
