My Electric Bill Is A Beautiful Sight

No, I haven’t flipped my top. My electric bill is really a beautiful sight. How can a bill be a beautiful sight? When the amount owned says, Do Not Pay. Why would an electric bill say do not pay? It’s because I have a $178 credit. Last August I signed up for the electric company's solar panel program. The panels are located in a field so I don’t even have to have them on my roof. The power company maintains them so I don’t have to do that either. I just have to sit back and receive credit towards my electric bill. I use so little electricity durning the summer months that the $178 will more than likely pay my entire summer’s bills. But that’s not all the credit I’m going to earn this summer. I’ll earn credits every month until August 2020. In May I earned $102 credit and the same amount in June. I’m probably going to earn that same amount in July. August may drop a little bit and each month going into fall and winter will drop due to less daylight hours. But the idea is I’ll have enough credit built up that I won’t have to pay anything on my electricity through the winter. So basically free electricity through August 2020. Well, I guess I can’t say it’s totally free. I had to pay to get in the program. But it is estimated I will earn $1,800 over what I paid. Okay, I’m sure someone is going to ask. It was $1,400 per panel and I signed up for two panels. It turned out to be perfect timing. I had just been permanently laid off work and paid for the panels out of my severance pay. So now I think you understand why by electric bill is a beautiful sight. I wish all my bills were a beautiful sight.

That's awesome. The same thing happened to us this month. The apartment complex where we live we have a $100 cap on our electric meaning if we go over the $100 that month then we get a bill and have to pay whatever the overage is with the rent payment. This month we didnt go over I was so happy I was worried cause we had been running the a/c but I was so happy. I hope we do it again this month it would be nice.

So basically your electricity up to $100 is included in your rent. So if you use less then $100 worth do you get a refund on that amount or does the landlord pocket it?

@RichardMeister you know Im not sure about that. I don't think that's ever happened. I would imagine the rent would be adjusted that as that maybe the case in some of the 1 or 2 bedroom apartment with no children, lol.

@AutumnSnow So in your case it would be better if you used at least $100 worth of electricity every month.

Nice! That's gonna be a lot of savings for you! We just went to a house where they installed the solar panels a while back - and the owners say they are indeed saving as well. Yah, seriously, if only it could work out that way with the other bills!!

@RichardMeister Can you imagine the bills you would have on top of the mortgage for one of those 7 figure Spokane homes?

Thank you. I figured I'd be better off with the panels than investing my money in the stock market.

We have friends in a similar system and like you they are being credited for the power they generate and feed back into the system.
