Mustang, a word with more meanings than I EVER knew (a 2015 movie too)

Everyone knows the word in the context of wild horses, which still roam the American west, then there is the iconic Ford Mustang, a best seller since 1964, the American P51 Mustang fighter was historically successful in WW II and the Korean War. I recently heard of a nearly lost Tibetan dialect called Mustang. But, I want to write about another use of the word that I learned about on the Academy Awards show this year. "Mustang" is a Turkish movie, (nominated for Best Foreign Language Film) set in a village on the Black Sea coast about 600 miles from Istanbul. Five sisters, their parents dead, are left in the care of their grandmother, who is not up to the task, and some uncles who are very conservative in their beliefs about women and tradition. The girls are very close and a bit wild, hence the title. When some innocent play with boys after school is reported by gossipy neighbors, grandma and the uncles go about putting bars on windows and instigating arranged marriages for the older girls, with some tragic consequences. The youngest of these beautiful young girls watches all this and then takes action. The setting is beautiful and the closeness of the orphaned sisters is wonderfully portrayed. It is on Netflix, perhaps only disc currently, but it is a four star film for me.

Is the one in the photo the famous Mustangs Statue at Las Colinas? I remember I took a photo of this sculpture, it's beautiful. This Turkish movie seems interesting.

@JamesHxstatic They nine mustangs are beautiful. I remember we took a photo at mid morning of a day in late October, the light was perfect to capture the shades of the bronze and the blue of the water. I have to find my photo.

@JamesHxstatic Thanks for the information. It is a lovely sculpture. We have sculpted kangaroos moving through water like that in the middle of Perth.

I believe the wild mustangs are under threat in America now (according to crazyhorseladycx). I wonder where that sculpture is - it's great.

They are indeed. Many are rounded up and slaughtered annually in eastern Oregon.

Lovely image too. It is a fact many are still enslaved by others even in present times and also by society's iron clad norms. The stark difference in cultures and practices are becoming more marked as the younger generation is finding it tough to find meaning in some of them - siva

There must be a book. I would love to read it. Do you have any idea if there is a book in the English language?

@RubyHawk & @suziecat7 The screenplay was written by Deniz Gamze Ergüven and Alice Winocour, no book was mentioned. You can see a preview on my favorite movie site IMDB.
