We will miss you

I woke up last night fight about 3 am to find Cam had already passed on, sometime earlier. She was stretched out on the floor like she had merely gone to sleep. As I cried, my other two dogs huddled next to me shivering. Hubby helped gather her up, for burial in the backyard near the trees. As we went back to sleep Nibbler and Gizmo all cuddled next to me. Yes, I am sad. But. I am glad she was able to move on at home, and not have to be taken to the vet. Selfishly I didn't want to have to do that. I know that's even harder and I feel for anyone who has to take that step. And I will always miss her.

I am so sorry Jessica, but you are right, at least you had not to take the hard decision to take her to the vet.

@Jessicalynnt My niece had to put her retriever to sleep. She said that she will never forget the last look of her dog, she did not even want to have another one. She was traumatized.

@LadyDuck that's what I was afraid of, I planned on holding her, with my eyes closed. she wouldnt care if I was starting at her, just that she was getting held and scratches

My condolences for your loss. But you are lucky you didn't have to put her down. Everytime I have to do that I feel guilty for at least a year, I lost Mykey in July of last year, he had tumors and they were inoperable so I had to do that to him.

It probably isn't @Jessicalynnt and I'm beginning to think an overdose of sleeping pills would be kinder than those awful needles they use for injections, they always seem to miss the vain they're trying to find. I felt so bad for Mykey when the stupid technician couldn't find his vain.

Oh how sad and I am so sorry I never got to read this sooner - Big hugs and I hope Cam and my Shilo are frolicking in Doggie heaven together - getting up to all sorts of wonderful things. My heart goes out to you - it will be a while before you feel any better.

You have all my sympathies. It's so hard to lose a friend, but I agree, I'm glad she could be at home in all her familiar surroundings, the smell of what she loved all around her.

I know how hard that is. I guess we know when we take on a canine companion that their lifetime is short. That does not make saying goodbye any easier.
