Spent the Weekend with Family

We celebrated my mom's birthday this weekend since it was when my sister could get off work. She came up with her husband from Virginia. Her daughter who is attending college in Toledo, Ohio came up for two days. The rest of us live in the area except my one sister that lives in Detroit. I'm usually able to spend one to two days at most with my family when they come home to visit since I work weekends, but this year I did take off the whole weekend, and then with my situation with my ankle, I had off an extra day for visiting as well. My brother and sister-in-law hosted our family as they usually do and provided the majority of the food we all enjoyed. As usual there was enough to feed a small army. My picture is of my sisters and myself with my mother on the front left. The sister on my left, facing the image is the one that lives in Detroit, and she is eleven months younger than me. My sister in the middle is ten years younger than I, the baby of the family, and the one took off work when I called with my leaky vein. My sister visiting from VA is behind my mom. My mom spent all day yesterday and today with us and seemed to enjoy herself more than she has in a long time. Usually, she wants to go home to sleep, but she didn't ask to leave at all while we were all together.

We usually get several pictures of just us kids and variations on the theme, but one of my brothers who lives in Arizona couldn't come at this time and my brother that lives at this location was taking the smaller children out on quad rides and therefore wasn't in this picture. I could say we're all aging well.

@paigea Not as big as some, but possibly bigger than the family you grew up in? I'm the oldest of six kids. There were four girls and two boys. All of us were married at one time or another except my sister next to me in age. She never married nor had any children. Most of us that had children had two to three. I had two daughters, my sister that was third in line had two daughters and then a son, she's the one on the left looking at the picture. The oldest of the boys who lives in Arizona has two girls and then a boy, and my other brother who hosted this and many other parties has two boys. Lastly my sister that's in the middle in the photo had a boy and then a girl. Many of those kids are having their own kids now too, but there's a good group that are waiting to marry or have children. So, yes we're a big group when all together, but there are cousins on my mom's side of the family that have even more children.

I am glad that your mother was so happy to have all the family together and she did not even ask to go home to sleep.

@MarshaMusselman I agree, the fact that she made those remarks is a good sign. Also my mother now asks every five minutes to go back home. We bring her nowhere because she does not want to stay away from home.

I don't know that she realized fully or remembered that everyone was together, but at least she wasn't asking every five minutes to go back home. She seemed a lot more aware at times than I've seen her in a long time. We spent some time closer to the pool and she made remarks about how much everyone enjoyed the pool and water which was remarkable to me.

Thanks, Arthur. This one is a bit blurred, but works fine for this purpose.

It looks like everyone is happy to be together. Hope you can visit like this again soon! It just is not easy when family is so far apart.

In the past several years we've been able to get together on almost a yearly basis. I don't always think about asking for enough days off, but this year it worked out and I had three decent days with them.

That does make for a nice backdrop, doesn't it? Their property is surrounded by woods, so most pictures would probably include some trees.
