Limit Your Exposure to Political Posts on Facebook

Like nearly everyone I know, I have already decided who I will vote for in the fall.
Unfortunately, I still have friends in both parties who are busy trying to convince everyone else that their political choice is the right one and the other candidate is absolutely terrifying. One friend in particular posts things every day that are sometimes downright offensive and often distort the truth.
However, even when I agree with what my friends are saying, I have grown weary of reading about it.
I learned a little Facebook trick that I am passing on to everyone else that feels the same way I do. I posted the following statement on my Facebook page:
"Thanks to everyone who has avoided posting political stuff on Facebook. For those of you who, like me, have already decided who they will vote for, I've learned a neat trick. Whenever I see a political post by a friend, a news outlet, or from another source, I click on the little arrow in the upper right-hand corner of the post and choose "see fewer posts like this." It has been great. Since I started doing that, I have seen far fewer political posts and a lot more pictures of my friends and their families ... which is what I want to see, anyway! Thank you, Facebook, for giving us some control over what we see!"
Feel free to copy and paste what I wrote to your Facebook page ... or write your own, similar comment. Then, use that little arrow in the corner of each post generously. I was amazed at how quickly it made a difference!

@jaboUK - I try to ignore political stuff, but it is a lot easier when I just block it!

@Mike197602 - Actually, I am learning to control it better, so I just enjoy communicating with my friends on Facebook ... and eliminating the political extremism!

FB sucks in a big way
I tried deleting it once but after an hour I gave up as it won't let you...harder to get rid of than ebola.

I limit my exposure to FB as a whole by not visiting more than once per month

@Mike197602 - I have a large, sprawled out family with grandkids all over the country, so I go on Facebook to communicate with them. I don't want to read a bunch of political posts while I am on there!

It was almost instantaneous. I use it for other types of posts too.

@ElizabethWallace - I was surprised at how quickly I stopped seeing political commentary on my Facebook feed. You are right that it was almost instantaneous! I have used it for a few other types of posts that don't interest me, too. However, politics was the topic that irritated me the most!

@DeborahDiane It is an even more irritating topic this election cycle. Which was, I think, intentional.

@JudyEv - You are so right that some people cannot take a hint. I have hinted on Facebook in the past that I do not want to see political commentary ... but people keep posting it. Now I can avoid even seeing their posts! Hurray!

@ElizabethWallace - I agree. Most of the time, people have no idea that I am not seeing all their political garbage!

It's easier to do it this way, so they never know.

I recently deleted my facebook account, I am sick of all the personal drama, religious and political mess. I have not missed facebook for one moment.

@fishtiger58 - I only like Facebook for seeing pictures of my friends and family. Anything else doesn't interest me ... and now I know how to eliminate it. I have also blocked a few people who post a lot of "personal drama," as you put it.

@fishtiger58 - Yes, if you don't have anyone you are staying in touch with through Facebook, I can see how deleting your account would be the easiest solution.

@DeborahDiane I probably could have done that but found it easier just to delete my account.

This kind of division is why I ignore politics... Besides both of our current candidates don't appeal to me...

@Hanyouyomi - I have to laugh when they call each other "crooked." I have yet to meet a politician who hadn't done something devious or sneaky!

@Hanyouyomi - I have gotten to the point where I don't believe what politicians say!

@DeborahDiane Well that's kinda the thing, as the political party puppets don't pay attention the shady crap their representatives does. They only pay attention the emotional volume of their words in this circumstances. It's sad really, but expected at this point...

@corvinus - I agree. I do not comment on political issues on Facebook ... I just eliminate them from my Facebook feed. Life is so much more peaceful now! And I can still use Facebook to communicate with my friends.

@marsha32 - Yes, I think it is ridiculous how people keep trying to argue with other people and win them to their side. It just makes me want to avoid those people!

@irishidid - You have more anger management control than I do, if you can read people's political posts and never get upset. I know who I am going to vote for, so I don't want to read about all that stuff anymore.

What a great idea that is! I must say that if I had a "friend" who posts things like you mention, there would be an abrupt end to that friendship.

@JamesHxstatic - I did "unfriend" a few people on Facebook. However, there are other people that I like, except for their political rants. Now I know how to send their rants to the trash bin! LOL

Here on MyLot, I just avoid the political posts. I'll be glad when the election is over ... as long as it turns out the way I want it to!
