The magnitude of the misery of the call centre job intensified today. to put it mildly it is awful - management are outright bullies - swearing, ranting, interrupting calls, denouncing everyone as crap, demanding that we not only switch off mobile phones but surrender them on entering the workplace, collecting them on the way out – I got grief for deciding not to take mine in at all - this convinces them the phone must be hidden on me – It really is at home.
Sanitation is barely existent. There is only one gents and one ladies toilets on the entire Business Park – with one unisex toilet in the office area for number ones only a management dislike bad smell from anything else – we have to use the one by the block reception for anything else.
There is no call dispositioning - in fact no computer logs at all - just a phone - it's pared down to absolute bare minimums - sales are supposed to be to new independent businesses, less than three months old, getting them to change gas/electricity providers - the cold calling automated dialler has put me onto many familiar long established businesses - most firms called are franchise branches with energy sorted out at their regional or head offices - the company aims to hit pizza and kebab houses at peak times because that's when the boss is in though that is also when they are rushed off their feet serving customers and in such small businesses bosses do the job rather than taking sales calls - not expecting to get any sales at all so firing is likely to be imminent - hardly anyone gets sales - no one is on target - how this place has lasted 16 years is beyond me - they seem to have been hit hard by the rise of price comparison sites
Waiting for my bus after work, a friend from work and I spotted a young fledgling magpie on the grass in front of some houses standing, but unable to fly. I went to it and stroked it but not being from there I had no idea where to take it or what to do with it.
Left alone it would soon fall prey to local cats. Fortunately a local chap who had already seen it came out with a box he had gone home to fetch and put the baby bird in it, taking it home to find it some worms and bread and figure out if he can help it. Unless I see the man again I’ll never know how things turned out.

Done the call centre thing and hope I never have to go back. Sounds like they are just cycling people through. Do they get a subsidy from the government for everyone they hire? There are places here that get that. Often they don't care if you're suited for the job and they treat everyone abominably. Hope for the best.

I worked in a cal center. It was the last job I had before I got a early retirement. Worked there five years before they made a bunch of changes that really would have driven me crazy. I don't envy you at all. The one I worked for was well organized though and good to work for in most respects.

it is a soulless job, but it's another day of pennies saved for a new place to live

I'm a really quiet, non-confrontational person, but that sort of treatment would have me foaming at the mouth and giving them what for. Absolutely terrible.

As you've got experience in call centers maybe look for a job in a customer services call center for another company...nobody likes cold callers but they phone the other type of call places for help so it should be slightly better.

the longest job i had in the call center was 3 months. that's it, but because i got laid off, i had training years after but i just quit because it handles phone services, which sucks even more.

I had a similar job, calling businesses to set appointments for insurance agent's and the like. They fired me after two months.
