Are You a Brand Name Kind Of Person?

I am and I am not. What does that mean? When I find something I like I buy it weather it is a name brand or not. For instance, take pork and beans. There is an of brand that I tried by accident and found that I liked it better than the name brand ones I had been buying for years. Also, there are some shampoos and conditioners that I have tried that are not name brands that are terrific. I heard some time ago that many of the brand name companies make off brand things under a separate name that have the same formula as the name brands. I think it is sometimes better to try something before you make up your mind that this is what you will buy. Then again, as I said before, there are some things that I will never change. I found them, I love them and that's it. What do you do? Do you ever try things that are not name brands?

When I see unbranded products the first thing I do is reading carefully the ingredients. If there is nothing "suspect" I try and many times I have found that those products are much better and less expensive too.

@LadyDuck I also read the ingredients. I have to agree sometimes the off brands are better.

It really depends. I'm usually the one to try out lesser known brands. I just check the ingredients first and see if there are those that aren't good for me or my kids. There are brands, though, that I stick with, especially when it comes to food because I know that they're of high quality. Clothes are those that I don't mind if it's branded or not.

@HazySue Sometimes it's also being practical, usually branded items are more expensive than others. But I was taught by my dad not to scrimp on food, that's why I put a premium on that.

@moonchild117 Where food is concerned I do buy the brand I like whether it is a name brand or not. I buy what I like to eat, if it tastes good to me, it goes in my basket.

I don't stick with any brands even though I have favorites like Pantene for shampoo. I buy what is the cheapest, what's on sale, what has a coupon, etc.

@marsha32 I think with finances being the way they are today, most of us are choosing to shop that way,

Most of our personal care from toiletries to make up and perfume has a brand because my husband and I has a very sensitive skin so we need to be careful but when in term of clothes doesnt matter if its branded or as long as it comfortable then we can wear it.

I am 90 percent brand names - I've tried store brand foods and threw them out. I would rather pay a few cent more and get food that I can eat. There are a few exceptions - I do love Ingles brand french dressing!

@HazySue I have thrown away cans of store brand veggies and bags of their frozen veggies. For me it's just not worth it. We are foodies, so I don't mind spending the pennies for what we like.

@AbbyGreenhill if I had to throw it away I wouldn't get it again. I have been lucky, we have not run across a lot of things that are inedible.

@AbbyGreenhill I find that I get my favorites when buying food no matter the brand. We have tried different brand and do find that sometimes we will find and off brand that seems a little more flavorful.

I am not really brand conscious but there are brands I will never buy again due to bad product quality.

Hi @CaptAlbertWhisker I am the same way. Not too many years ago most people bought only name brands. I am not quite sure why though.

For the most part no. There are certain things that I prefer the name brands of, but I think for the most part I buy what's on sale.

Yes, I do once in a while buy something which is not brand name and if I like it then I buy it again.

I'm like you. We only buy Dukes mayonnaise, Maxwell House coffee and Tide or Gain detergent depending on what is on sale. As for the rest of our groceries, if the off name brand is as good we buy it. Have a blessed day

I don't care if the products I buy are name brand or not. Most of the time they are all made in the same factory and just have a different label put on the bottle. My dad travels and works in some of these factories and he has seen it been done with the shampoos White Rain, Suave, and Dove.

My take is almost exactly as yours is. It depends on what it is. Brand names are just brand names. It has nothing to do with quality in my opinion. And like you, there have been off brand items I have found were better than the brand name ones. So yes. It just depends.
