Another project? Oh No!

As many of you know, I am something of a clothes horse and am a compulsive buyer of expensive clothing. I suppose you could call me metrosexual, at least by Montana standards. Just last week, I spent fully $19 on a new pair of Wrangler shorts. A few months before that, I spent $29 on a pair of highly fashionable (and quite comfortable) Fila sneakers. I believe they're called running shoes these days. Much to my disappointment, the upper part of the sole separated from the side on one of them. I thought about what I have here, and decided to see if I could repair them with the hot glue gun I use for attaching speaker grille cloths to speaker frames. Do you think I will succeed? Are you a clothes horse as well? If I succeed with this project, I might celebrate by buying a couple of extra $6 black t-shirts at Target.

My dad has this need to use gorilla glue on everything! Once that's on something it never comes off!

Does it tend to hold stuff together? I've bought "super glue" at the Dollar Store that simply didn't work!

It might just work! Let us know if it was a success (hot glue to repair the shoes)! But you may need the fabric glue?

I use the glue sticks that my friends use at their shop. They seem to work with fabric and wood. I think they will with rubber and (possible) leather.

They don't make them like they use to, tennis champions use to wear them and they last a very long time. I have had similar problems with what were suppose to be good reliable brands anyway my method is to apply contact cement on both sides, let it dry a little bit then clamp the shoe on my vise overnight ar at times more than 24hrs.

@TheHorse yes it has to be clamped and for those reading and don't have one, they could use heavy books placed one on top of the other to pin the shoe. There seems to be a lot of "class A" knock offs these days and it's very hard to tell between the genuine, scary thing is if they find their way to legit shops, the same problem happened to me with my Oakley tactical boots.

I did clamp them tightly overnight with some spring-loaded clamps. I think that helped.

What makes you think hot glue won't last? It's the only glue I trust for my speaker grilles.

do buy the t-shirts if you succeed... because if you don't succeed, you'll be spending more than $12 anyway for another pair of sneakers... good luck!

So far, the hot glue (now dried and cool) is working. I like the fact that it's a tad flexible.

So, were you successful? I don't know whether I'd call spending less than thirty dollars on shoes and twenty on jean shorts to be related to purchasing expensive clothing. Or, are you being facetious? I've had to buy seventy dollar shoes, but I usually can get them for about forty dollars. More than what I like to spend, but I've bought a lot of shoes in the past ten years and many didn't fit for very long. If I have to spend a bit more to get ones I can wear for a few years, I'm doing good.

A new computer. Now that's a reasonable investment. Most of my buying is of stereo gear and guitars, and I'm in the interesting position of needing nothing new right now.

I have repaired shoes using super glue and it worked, I have used them years after I have re-attached the sole. I think that the hot glue should work.
