Got wood

Someone on the site here mentioned something called doubling about a month or so ago and I thought I'd look into it. Basically you have to find or be given a penny and then you try to double it for each new level. You're expected to invest your gains each time to try to gain the next level.
I thought I'd give it a go even though I have no real ambitions of becoming a millionaire. First problem is that Canadians don't use pennies anymore so I modified the list and elected to start at a nickel. Easy enough to get started. Just wander through the drive through at work regularly.
I just got enough found money saved that I can buy a couple of two by fours to modify into wood turned products. My hope is to get my wood turning business off the ground slowly. I'll make prototypes or practice items and sell them on Ebay. Maybe I can continue doubling up higher. This is all found money so I don't have to feel guilty about pulling anything from the family budget.
Just when I was getting ready to buy my wood, I was talking to a friend who had five leftover two by fours in his barn. He gave them to me. Now I still have my seed money and some supplies. I may miss some time around here while I work at this. I will post what I make and my progress.
I wish I could find time laying around too.

I'm always short of time and when I waste some I feel terrible. Finding extra time would be terrific.

Sorry about this but I was expecting an entirely different discussion

@koopharper In all seriousness, I have heard of this doubling thing and it's something I think I need to look into a little more.
From what I've heard it's similar to this trading thing where someone starts with a paperclip and ends up with a house...can't remember what it's called but a lot of people have successfully done it to one extent or another.

@koopharper I agree! You've been working toward that for some time now. I hope it all goes smoothly!

I heard about it here on myLot but I don't remember who it came from. If it can get my wood turning off to a modest start it will be worth all the effort.

I don't know that it's too good to be true. You are expected to do all the work and figure out where and how. Here is the website showing the basic concept:

I never heard of wood turning before. Have you explained it previously or are you going to do that once you complete a project? I'd look it up, but should be heading back to bed for a bit. And, before I do that I have to check the weather for the next few days and call some customers so we have something to do for work when I get up at noon tomorrow.

Wood turning is when you mount a block of wood of some configuration on a lathe and spin the wood as you chisels away material. Bowls and spindles are often turned that way.

@koopharper Ahh, sounds like fun to see what you might come up with. Sound similar to working with pottery except the medium is quite different.

It isn't really an offer, it's more of a mindset. Not for everyone I'm sure but it allows me a way to invest on a small scale without risking money that I can't afford.

@MarshaMusselman Most of what I pick up is small change. Larger bills I will attempt to find the owner. Even small change if I see who it belongs to I get it back to them.

@koopharper If we find any money at work whether working or not if we don't turn it in there's a good possibility we'd be fired. So, for me to find any money, I'd have to go to other stores and pick up what I find from the floors or ground. I'd only keep change, though, if I ever did find anything and maybe dollar bills, but never bigger ones. Although, if I were shopping somewhere and found a larger bill, I'd let the desk know I found something and give my phone number out, but keep the amount secret. If someone were to call that lost what I found, I'd hopefully still have it to return to them.
Most people haven't a clue when they drop bills onto the floor.

Sounds interesting, and time does seem to be the real enemy.

That is probably my biggest problem is finding the time when I have what I need.

Slowly but surely. All but one of my glue ups are glued. I have to trim them yet and dig up the wood lathe. Hopefully I won't run into any roadblocks.

I never heard about that doubling thing (investing). Quite afraid to engage in such. What will you do with the wood?

The wood will be used to make two new display plates similar to one's I have made in the past. I'll also be making a set of candlesticks that will match the style and any painted motif I intend to add. I'm hoping I can sell them for a profit on Ebay. I'm also intending to make a more complex piece, to two tier display plate with a handle, to see if I can successfully make something in my style aesthetically pleasing. If that works, I'll sell that prototype on Ebay as well.
I'm not afraid of the investing because I'm not really risking anything. I found the money on the ground and the wood was given to me. I won't be investing anything else into this venture.

shows where my mind goes when someone makes an entirely innocent discussion
