Bird of Paradise Plant

I am pretty good with house plants, in fact I have a small house plant business, but my sons Bird of Paradise has me stumped. About a year ago we took it to where he bought it cause there was something wrong. The found the problem and we got that taken care of. Now it is going down hill fast and no one knows what is wrong with it. I have been taking care of it for over 3 years and I am devastated. I am keeping my fingers crossed but I think I am losing the battle of keeping it alive.

Yes, they are. I never had one before so this has been a challenge.

Thanks. I have a Plameria (spelling?) plant that belongs to my oldest son and I am keeping it alive so far.

@KristenH I think the heat is taking a toll on a lot of things this year. I hope your sunflower makes it.

Thank you. I hope some miracle happens and it lives. They are pretty expensive plants and there is no way I can replace it.

Maybe some plant fertilizer would be the answer, but I'm sure you've thought of that.

@velvet53 Okay, this is a dumb idea probably, but have you thought about getting something not expensive? I've heard about things that are cheap that work miracles. Talk to your friends who are into plants and see what they use. Personally I use Miracle Gro. It works great.

They are usually tough plants. It's a shame it is dying.

Perhaps some online research can help resolve the issues with bring the plant back to the state the plant needs to be. Hopefully the plant will be revived.

Do you know how long they normally last for? Perhaps it's come to the end of it's life.

It is suppose to last for years. They told me that it wouldn't flower until about 7 or 8 years. He has had it less than 4 years.

I apologize for taking so long to respond to Crazy's summons, velvet, but I really have been busy lately.... I have been editing a manuscript for someone... Actually, I finished editing his manuscript and have just started on another one.... (shrug!) Gotta pay the bills, you know... What kind of problem are you having with the Bird of Paradise plant?

Hi. Thanks for responding. I understand. Those bills have to come first. The leaves and turning brown and shriveling up. I thought maybe it got over watered when I wasn't here so I backed of on watering for a few extra days. What used to be a plant that had many leaves is now down to six.

@DaddyEvil Ok, thanks. I did cut it back and moved it to a different area. As soon as I figure out my phone I will take a picture of it and get it posted.

@velvet53 Have you taken a picture of your plant that you can upload here to myLot? It helps if I can see exactly what you are talking about, although it is pretty clear what turning brown and shriveling up means... Let me check. BRB.
