I've Accepted My Own Challenge: My Dream Kitchen

United States

What would I want in my “dream kitchen?” I certainly DON’T have a “dream kitchen” right now, and I may never get one either, but the whole idea is to DREAM. So, here goes. First, my kitchen would have to be VERY large, with plenty of room to move around. I want LOTS of counter space and an island for meal preparations. Of course, I would want all the latest gadgets. Although I would want a separate, formal dining room, I would also want a “breakfast nook” which captured the morning sun. My Aunt Alice had a “breakfast nook” and I loved to eat there, with the morning sun shining through the window. Appliances would have to include a large capacity refrigerator/freezer, a modern smooth-top cook stove, a dishwasher, of course, and a trash compacter. I would want an expensive, easy-to-clean tile floor and lots of windows and an outdoor patio out of the kitchen door. I’m sure there are other things, I would want, but I’ll add them later as I have more time to think about it. Oh yes, I already thought of one more thing. A wine-cooling refrigerator. Now, the challenge is yours. Tell me what your “dream kitchen” would be like. Picture by Pixabay

I'd want a cook - oh wait, I've got one. That's pretty much it for me.

Yes, someone to cook all the meals. That would be great.

@IreneVincent When we had this house built Vin specified a larger than normal stove so he could cook all the things he wanted to. It is slightly wider than perhaps a standard stove and has six gas burners.

@JudyEv So your husband likes to cook? That's great! Two of my sons like to cook, but unfortunately my daughter does not.

My dream kitchen should be large enough to hold a sofa so l can relax after a meal or be able to sit and talk to whoever is there while we/i prepare a meal. It should have enough storage space and a small TV.In general, i want a kitchen where l can live in in a way,not a place l cook then rush to go out and watch TV or relax on the sofa.My kitchen floor will have lovely white easy to clean tiles.

Ahhhh! A sofa, now there's an idea. Storage space, YES! Plenty of cabinets for dishes and cooking utensils and groceries. A TV, yes that would be nice. I can see my TV in my living room from my small kitchen.

Right now if something goes a little wrong on the stove, I need to run to the windows and open all doors. What I wouldn't give for a hood like the one in that picture.

@IreneVincent Even just normal cooking smells. If you don't have one you sure miss it. I would like a large kitchen too. In fact those country style kitchens which are the main room in the house suit me just fine.

Yes, a hood is a good thing to have. I have one over my kitchen stove. It will quickly remove the smell of burnt food if that should happen.

@IreneVincent My husband is always amazed by the arrangements at IKEA. Maybe one day, we will pattern that on our kitchen.

I found that photo on Pixabay. It looked pretty much like what I would consider to be a "dream kitchen."

@wiLLmaH We can all "dream" about the kitchen or house we would like to have some day. It could happen. Who knows?

I don't have a dream kitchen per se but since my house is only a few years old my kitchen has pretty much everything I wanted. Since I was downsizing my kitchen is smaller than those large ones they show on TV or magazines but I do have plenty of counter space and an island for prep work.

That's wonderful. So you already have your kitchen the way you want it. That's good.

I have a small apartment sized kitchen at present. I have had much larger kitchens but I actually love my small kitchen. Everything is close and compact. It's my favorite kitchen. I don't believe I would change anything.

I'm OK with my small kitchen too. It's called a "galley" kitchen. Not big enough for a table and chairs. I have my table and chairs in my living room near the front window. It works for me. I don't need a large kitchen anymore, since all my children are grown and live elsewhere.

I should write about my dream house that I just bought. Your dream kitchen would be neat.

Yes, write about it. Tell us all about it. I am very interested. I have designed my "dream house" but will never get to build it.

@crazyhorseladycx I have always enjoyed "Walton's Mountain". Supposedly, it was filmed in Virginia but actually it was filmed in California, even though the story was about Virginia.

If the kitchen is large like kitchens used to be years ago, that's where the family usually gathered. I was thinking about the TV show, "Walton's Mountain" and I recall that many of the scenes in that show were in their huge kitchen with them all sitting around the big table. I'm trying to remember a scene in the living room.
