A Harry Potter Fan I Am

August 2, 2016 11:36pm CST
I told my daughter tonight, as we watched the 5th Harry Potter film, that there haven't been too many more thrilling things in my life than reading each Harry Potter book for the first time. Now... I must admit that sounds a bit extreme. And... she (the 12 year old that she is) did not GET it at all. But... I must say that I am an avid reader who LOVES, loves, loves good books. I love good literature, not trash. My favorites are mostly comprised of the classics like numero uno, Les Miserable, followed by (in no particular order) many Dickens novels (though my favorite is David Copperfield), Jane Eyre, The Lord of the Rings, all things Jane Austen, and many more. So to say that I love Harry Potter, well, no one should take that lightly. Meaning: it is more than simply a children's book. Much more. And reading the series, as I did, with the anticipation between books, well, it was unlike any other reading experience that I had ever had. (I'm now about to experience similar as I have recently finished the Game of Thrones series up to book five... we fans are awaiting books 6 and 7). I said to my daughter that of course, there have been many other wonderful things in my life (um, motherhood to five wonderful kids, marriage, and more)... but.... As an avid reader, I can't deny the thrill of reading each of those Harry Potter books for the first time. (I'm currently about to read them again for the 9th (I believe) time and well, it's not quite the same).

I never read more than the first few Harry Potter books and I always say I'm going to finish the series BUT I get caught up in so many other books that my goal always slips to the bottom of my "things to do".

I have not read the books yet, but only watched the first movie. I like the story. I hope I will have some time to read the books, then introduce them to my son when he is older. I think he will like it. I have the same question as The Horse, what stories does your daughter like to read or listen?

What does she like reading? I enjoy murder mysteries by Hillerman and Doyle, as well as occasional "pithy" novels by folks like John Fowles. And anything by Mark Twain, of course.
