Coconut water , good for your daughter.

Those are lines from a popular song....but the fact is ,it is good for everyone. With the heat wave scorching up the countryside, it is this drink for which people are queuing up for .The high humidity causes a lot of sweating and it is this natural drink which contains the essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and sodium and thus restores the depleted electrolytes. .After surgeries , the hospital dietician gives this drink as the first fluid to all patients. After my surgery a couple of years ago they gave it to me too , I still remember this sweet and tasty drink which the nurse handed to me. My mom who had to be admitted with dehydration and severe food poisoning after a family wedding a long time ago was given up to five glasses of coconut water daily. The tender coconut is slashed at the top and a straw inserted for people to sip.Afterwards it is cut in two and the white flesh is a delicious dessert. No wonder people here are sipping it and slurping it A great way to beat the heat. Have you had this drink? Is it common in your place.? Tender coconuts at the roadside...my photo

Coconut milk is not too bad, I tried bottled coconut water and it was really bad, not even similar to the fresh taste of the water from the coconut.

It can be found everywhere in my country and and it's one of my favourite refreshment, especially in the summer season. It's way much better than water.

@responsiveme Apple juice. We grow lots of apples and cherries in Wisconsin. I haven't seen cherry juice, though I never would look for it as it's not a favorite. But I'm sure of all the juices on the shelves, the local would be apple.

That is what we call "Buko Juice". It is very common here since Philippines has coconut trees in every place. The juice of tender coconut helps in our kidney problems Its flesh is very good as salads or ingredients in some dishes.

lovely pic though i must confess my eye's drawn to those beautiful baskets more so'n those coconuts, lol. i adore fresh coconut, though dislike't dried 'n baked into anythin'. the texture perhaps? i dunno. that's most interestin' 'bout the water contained within. shame they don't grow 'round these parts. the ones they get here'n the store 're too ripe i reckon?? no sweetness to the water 'n e'en the flesh tastes 'f dirty socks :( (what my brain tells me, noperz, i aint ne'er ate a dirty sock, lol)

@responsiveme how wonderful to've such. sadly most all foods here're sold'n supermarkets (outside'f the farmers market durin' the summer months) 'n one's nary a clue 's to how ol' schtuff truly 's. what a blessin' to be able to get schtuff fresh. 'n those baskets?? such artistry, made by hands worn with the makin' 'f such.
