Tell me about your pets!

August 5, 2016 4:42pm CST
I recently adopted a long-haired kitten when my in-law's cat had a litter, and she's both adorable and wild! I swear, one minute she'll be cuddling with me while I'm on my laptop or watching Netflix, and the next she'll be drawing blood in her attempts to play! Although she's a handful, I love having her to keep me company while my husband works twelve hour shifts. Who else here has pets? What made you decide to get one? I'm curious to hear pet stories!

I love pets when I was still a kid. We had birds and dogs. But I was not good in taking good care of them. I do not have any pets in the present. I would love to have a dog but I am afraid I cannot take care of it because of my busy schedule. I am always outside the house.

It's actually a very wise thing to do, realizing that you shouldn't have a pet when you cannot give them the attention and care they need. I know way too many people who shouldn't have pets, but do. And the shelters are always full of animals who were given up for silly reasons, because people didn't realize that a particular pet wasn't right for them.

@Kitsumi Thanks for the comment. Yes, I have seen same scenarios in our place. Animal poofs are everywhere on the street. I wish those caretakers would be responsible with their own pets.

@annierose It's so sad. I wanted a cat for several months but didn't get one because I was in the process of moving. I made sure that I was settled and knew my budget, how much time I would have for a pet, etc. before finally deciding to bring my kitten home.

I have 5 cats and a parrot. My 13 year old male striped tabby boy is my heart. He prefers my husband to me even though I bottle-fed him from the age of 4 weeks old and saved his life. I used to bring him to the practice I coached. I'd send the girls to go on their run and bottle-feed him while they were gone. Then he'd sleep in the hood of my sweatshirt for the rest of practice. Now he just wants to be with my husband. Brat!

Cats really don't appreciate all that we do for them, do they? Luckily, my baby seems to favor me, probably because I'm home all day with her xD She does spend cuddle time with hubby too when he is home from work, so things are looking good for both of us so far! I'm actually jealous of you for having so many cats! I'm a huge cat person, but the fees for having more than one in my apartment are just too much for me!

You now share life with a healthy baby animal. Congrats. Pets? None here. Fur persons for sure. Three felines, 2 dogs and 1 burro (donkey).

I have a fuzzy little calico, okay, maybe not so little who is ten. She was a rescue - only she rescued herself. She came to us injured, fleabitten, cat bitten, and crying. She was a tiny little waif. With care and love she's now the queen of the house. In face, she's supervising this post - by lying on the desk, belly floof deployed, and I have to arch my wrist over her back legs to type. See the tiny waif?

Oh my goodness, how adorable! Haha, she definitely doesn't look tiny anymore! At least you know she isn't starving, right? It's so nice that your pet came to you and found a loving home

I'm happy that you enjoy having a cat. We don't have any pets at this time and don't plan to, we had to have two dogs, one after the othe,r put down a few years ago and it's too painful to go through again.

My chiuahua's a handful... I raised him to be independent seven years ago when he was a puppy, only for it to literally bite me in the @$$. One minute he's antagonizing me, the next he's napping with, playing with me or gets excited when I feed him or give him treats. That and he's a cynical little bugger.... He loves me my parents and my siblings, but barks and growls at anyone else or other dogs... Where did I go wrong?
