The Hostage Situation

Good Morning Friends, and Happy Friday to you! Or, as I like to refer to this day as: Day 5 of the hostage situation! Those of you who work a grueling job know exactly what I mean! Except that in today's hostage situation, our kidnapper (er...employer) is going to have a change of heart and release us from captivity at the end of the day. It's almost like getting released this afternoon for a conjugal visit with our families, and then we start all over next week again with another five day hostage situation. So, when you break free from your oppressors today, take the time to enjoy your freedom over the weekend, and spend quality time with your friends and family, and let them know how much you love them! And...don't forget to have some fun!

@moffittjc Well, I have worked with my husband all my life, I do not complain, but believe me, it's hard to work with your partner.

@LadyDuck I can imagine how hard it must be. At some point, everybody needs some downtime away from their significant other. I guess that's hard to do when you see them at home AND at work!

I don't work now but I can relate to what you are saying from when I did work. I never thought of it that way until now but you are right. It is like we are being held hostage.

@moffittjc That is very true. Wouldn't winning the lottery be the best? Whenever we buy tickets, I always daydream a little about how it would be to have that much money.

@simone10 I dream about winning the lottery, but in reality I never even play the lottery. I guess if I want to win, I really should start buying tickets! That's the way it's supposed to work, right? lol

Unfortunately, it's a necessary hostage situation, unless we can all figure out how to win the lottery! LOL

My job was that way in the past, but now it's more stressful than anything else. As I keep getting promoted up the corporate ladder, I keep having to assume more and more responsibility, which makes the job less and less fun.

That's exactly how it felt. I've been pardoned - retired - and I'm so happy for my freedom.

@just4him I have five more years until I'm eligible for my full pension. If I can manage 12 more years (very unlikely), then I can enter the DROP program at work and qualify for a huge lump sum payout when I retire. But then I'd have to work five more years after entering the DROP in order to collect the lump sum payout. All told, that would mean I would have to work 17 more years to walk away a wealthy man! I'm struggling just to make it five more, yet alone 17 more! lol

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy my job, and I am thankful to be employed, but sometimes it's a struggle to get out of bed in the morning and go into work and deal with stressful situations.

Considering where you are from, I did not expect your working environment to be this adverse. Hope you are liberated for the weekend which you deserve. As for me, I just feel that I don't have enough time as I would like to work a little more. But these days I seem to be delegating more than before.

@artemeis It's too bad thought that we all have stresses and issues. Life is short, we should be able to enjoy it more!

I actually love my job, and have been with my employer for 15 years. But I am an upper level manager with my organization, so I am always dealing with a lot of stress and issues that make my job frustrating on some days.

What a wonderful discussion!! It's less than six years until this hostage gets permanently freed...or my sentence is revoked.

Same with me...I've got about five years. But I have a feeling I will break free of one hostage situation and land myself right back into another one! lol

I can relate. I loved my job most days, but oh, the absolute exhilaration when I walked out the door at the start of vacation leave!

I just have to function at such a high level of stress at work each and every day that it takes its toll on my by the end of the week. I have come up with the perfect solution, although my boss would never go for it. Instead of working five days straight and taking the weekend off, I think I would be more productive if I just worked every other day. Work Monday, take off Tuesday. Work Wednesday, take off Thursday. Work Friday, take off Saturday. Work Sunday, take off Monday. And then keep following the pattern.

I still have many years to go before I can be released. In the meantime, I'm hoping the SWAT team (aka the lottery) will come free me from the hostage crisis!

I have at least one or two days EVERY week where I get so frustrated with my job that I just want to walk away and quit. Then I'll have one good day at work, and I'll think to myself, "I love this job, how could I ever even think about quitting?" And then I repeat the cycle over again each and every week! One day I'll hate it so much I want to quit, and the next day I'll love it so much that I want to stay forever!
