Missing German Food

It is almost midnight here in the Philippines. I am checking my photos so I could have an idea what to write. Then I saw this photo of Bratwurst (German sausage ), peeled potatoes and steamed beet root. I feel hungry. I miss this German food and I can't have this here in the Philippines. As you can see, there's no gravy in the plate. I don't like gravy much in my food.
Do you miss food when you are in vacation? What is it?
Before I go to sleep, I have to eat something or else I will dream of this food.

I have never travelled outside the U.S. Not that I don't want to, maybe I can someday. So I really haven't had to miss food. Except when I didn't live close to my folks and I had to miss my mother's cooking. That was hard when that was the situation. I never have learned to cook as well as she has, although I'm learning some of her recipes. I'm lucky she's still living to tell me!

Not really - I have had spicier Cumberland sausage! The best place to try weird and wonderful German sausages is in the Weihnachtsmarkt, the traditional open-air markets in the 4 advent weeks leading up to Christmas in any town you care to choose in Germany. If you are lucky, you can find a Jagd stall, stocked with provender that hunters provide - venison sausages and other delicacies, all cooked and served before your eyes...

@thelme55 @JaboUK Yes, Germany has sausages for every occasion, as well as for every time of day. Weisswurst is traditionally served, with sweet mustard, before noon - for example. Yes, Lidl locally has been known to stock these once or twice a year, typically around Oktoberfest time and Easter. So I expect to ser them back in the next three or four weeks, along with Krautsalat, a wonderful sweet-pickled savoury white cabbage dish.

German sausages are the best in the world @jaboUK. Maybe it is too spicy for you. German sausages and other German food are sold in Aldi or Lidl in England and Ireland. You can try it for a change. When we were living in Ireland, we were happy to have found these German supermarkets in the country.

i guess it's easier to find them here in metro manila because there are many big supermarkets with imported products.

Yeah. Sometimes we crave for a food that is not accessible where we currently are.

Well, it depends where I am @skysnap. When I am in the Philippines, I miss German food especially German rye bread or Graubrot. When I am in Germany, I miss Filipino fruits like avocado, jackfruit, guava and of course not to forget dried fish.

@acelawrites I was wrong to write beetroot in my discussion. It was read cabbage. I also wait for the time I could eat the food that I long for.
