The person cooking eats less than the one watching... Thoughts?

For breakfast - my boyfriend made omelettes this morning to eat with bagels! After he finished making the omelettes, we began eating. And... Who was full first? Him. Who finished first? Me. He said, the person who cooks eats less than the one watching! I guess so because I didn't do any effort except toast the bagel. Is this true for you too? My mom said when she cooks, she's drained that she isn't hungry anymore.

I don't agree, I do most of the cooking except for the grilling stuff and I know that I sample along the way...neither of us watch we both cook.

@AbbyGreenhill What you're saying is true for some people but most get filled with steam and fragrance, we just have different appetite

Yah, my mom always said that too . . . I never understood until I started cooking regularly myself! My theory was yes, I just slaved over the stove and I'm tired. But then I realized we are around the smells and such of the meal the whole time . . . it's not as appealing once it hits the table - but it is to everyone else who had been starving and waiting to eat. But I also learned this: I am sampling what I cook all the time . . . so by the time it's done - I've already had many bites of it!

That is very smart to sample as you cook so by the time the food is ready - you have eaten! I don't ever cook and when I did before (just a few things here and there) it took SO long! Now my boyfriend prefers to just go out and grab food.

@infatuatedbby Well, I sample it because I want to make sure it tastes right. No, needs more salt. No, needs more pepper. No, needs more this or that. And then by the time I get it right, I'm sick of it already . I remember when I first started cooking, it took me a long time too. Mostly because I didn't do the prep stuff quick enough - like cutting. It takes time . . . if you keep doing it long enough, you just learn to do it quick(er).

@much2say I took cooking classes back in high school. I was slow at cutting because I was scared I'd cut off my fingers lol. Instead of actually 'cooking' I'd tell my group ~ I'll do the paperwork part so they always cooked. I wasn't more hands on! Lol. Ah yes, my mom tastes too when she cooks to make sure if anything else is missing.

My brothers, who cooks a lot, said its kind of true. They say that they smell it the whole time and they taste it every now and then to make sure theyre getting it right. So by the time the food gets to the table, they wont eat too much anymore cause they have enough while cooking it.

I think person cooking has feeding others in his or her mind. so they eat less. and the one who watches is desperate usually :P

@infatuatedbby how do you get money for shopping maybe you should try some department stores near you and get a job as a personal shopper, that'd suit you very well Also, try hotels near you...they are always looking for people and you could get some free stuff if it's a decent hotel

I think it true sometimes. When I cook I never seem to eat as much but it might be from doing all the work. I know my sister want eat some meats if she is the one that has to prepare them just because it grosses her out. Now for my boyfriend it doesn't matter. If I cook he eats a lot and if he cooks he still eats a lot. There are a lot of times that he will even eat off of my plate as well.
