Diary – Bank Holiday Monday 29th August 2016
A national holiday marking the transition from Summer to Autumn, and strangely the hottest day of the year so far.
I spent much of the day indoors sorting out books for my new book cases, which went up just yesterday. In the late afternoon I decided to go out taking photos and visiting a few pubs. I walked along the gorgeous waterfront area near the River Ribble that flows through Preston. With a marina, lifeboats and even a mock-lighthouse, it felt like I was on a coastal promenade.
I visited a few bars on the waterfront and considered seeing a movie at the cinema but no films worth seeing were due to start for hours so I settled on the pubs instead.
Diary – Tuesday 30th August 2016
The warm weather continued and after essential job searching, I headed out to do some vital errands, mixed with more casual tourism. My computer mouse was acting up so I bought a new one. I also needed a new toothbrush as my old one is rather worn down, so these purchases dominated the important stuff.
I spotted a few streets I knew had pubs down them and headed down them. I realized that continuing the route would return me to the waterfront I was on yesterday so I explored more of that too. I took photos of a marina where people can use pleasure craft on the river. I realized I was standing on a swing bridge, but no vessels were approaching it so it wouldn’t be raised while I was on it.
Back home – I so now think of my flat as home, I caught up on my writing and listened to some music.

The lighthouse looks pretty genuine for a mock one.

@JohnRoberts the river is quite wide, deep and linear - not sure if rocks would be a hazard there

Sounds like a lovely few days. I need to paint and mow today. It's nice out now, and Id love to take advantage of those temps to mow, but the grass is too damp. I hope it stays cloudy or at least we get some good cloud cover

there is a siren that would give plenty of notice and you'd see boats approaching too @JudyEv

I'm wondering if you snapped a photo of the swing bridge that can be raised if needed? We have bridges that can be raised, but... oh, do you call them that because they can be raised? I would think of a swing bridge as something built with ropes or something like that. I'm not sure that's what they'd be called around here, but that's what came to my mind. If it's a normal bridge made to raise when the circumstances call for it, then I do know what those probably look like after all.
Must be nice to live so close to beaches. Our hotter days are over with, I'm thinking although a few days here and there have been a bit more humid than recently, but not as hot overall as it was in July and the early part of August. I'm hoping it doesn't cool down too quickly.

It sounds like a nice, laid-back tour of the area. I should spend less time online and more wandering about in the real world!

A good pub beats a movie every time!
