Have you ever ... microwaved a day old doughnut?

Well, it stands to reason that no one can eat a baker's dozen glazed donuts. The fact is, I tried and I failed. I bought the 13 count doughnuts in a long box at Walmart and ended up eating about half a dozen in one night. Not proud to admit it but those were fresh and starting to get a bit sticky! So I heard through the grapevine that the microwave is a good thing to have around when your doughnut gets one day old. I know that some cake donuts do but I would rather eat my glazed donuts fresh off the racks in any case. How bout you? What is your take on the microwaved day old doughnut?

its good but frankly i prefer others donuts to walmarts. at least the one here don't make them very good especially the glazed. entements makes best glazed but i realize they are a bit expensive as donuts go.

My mom used to buy a dozen glazed donuts every week for my dad to pack in his lunch. We always had stale ones around because a dozen was too much for us - my mom would buy no less. So if my dad wanted one at home, she would put it on a napkin and zap it for a few seconds (probably no more than 30 seconds). It did soften it up (although it made the glaze a bit goopier). Heck, when you're hungry, you'll eat it!

@lookatdesktop I just don't like a "dried up" doughnut where the bready part is more like the beginnings of a crouton. Yes, a fresh doughnut shop doughnut is way better than the ones you pick on your own at the store . . . who knows how long ago they were made!

Yea. My big brother is diabetic on medication and he still eats stuff like cheese cake and birthday cake when he can get at it.

I have done it before. It's definitely better than eating them when they aren't hot and fresh. I work for a grocery store and we tend to get doughnuts in the back room that are days old. We just pop it in the microwave (if we want one) and that's that.

I used to have trouble going to the sales floor on time when there was a box of fresh glazed just waiting to be gobbled up. I gained much weight from this and the Godiva chocolates. Yum.

I do not think they taste that good when you put them in the microwave.

I don't either but I heard lots of people do use the microwave to heat them. I have had microwave cup cake before, actually pretty good and baked right in the microwave. You have to be careful with the cake when removing it and eating it as it can get pretty hot.

wouldn't that melt the glaze right off?

I don't know how to do it with a glazed doughnut and still keep the glaze

I believe the limit is just at or under 5 seconds. Beyond that, is too long.

Not. But actually microwave ovens are difficult to use beyond basic heating water for tea or coffee for the French press or making microwave pop corn.

I can't say that I have. That's a lot of sugar for a sugar high. Eat in moderation maybe.

Sugar free donuts then. I expect they do make them.

I eat day old anything Sometimes Indian or Chinese tastes even better eaten the next day. This morning I had breakfast at work and I had eggs, sausage, bacon and mushrooms and all but the eggs were from breakfast the previous day...the chefs revived it, as there was so much left over, and served it today...if I wasn't told I wouldn't have known.

A few months ago a place called Jack In The Box, a burger fast food place, sold me some tacos at 2 for a dollar each and I could tell they had been sitting underneath what is referred as a Heat Lamp and they were about as bad as it gets.

@lookatdesktop we use heat lamps too, most places do as there is a delay between the chefs putting the food on the pass and servers taking it out. Too long under the lamps is bad as the food dries out...this is where the mistakes are made. At my place it doesn't happen as the servers are all pretty good and the pass and kitchen as a whole is efficient. But that stuff I had had been under the lamps a while and had been put out to the buffet and not used. It was recycled and tasted great to me

@Mike197602 Some food might survive for a while but those tacos were soggy, mushy and just plain cold. The cool down time for a taco under a heat lamp is much faster than the cool down time for one right out of the grease pan.

I wonder when someone is going to attempt reviving life in a microwave. I would call the movie The Microwave Monster.
