The reason why Gene Wilder didn't want the public to know....

I am sure this information has already been put out there long enough for the public to know but I only just found out and felt like discussing it. So sorry if I am just repeating something you already heard. According to what I have read, Gene's nephew explained the reason why his illness was not known. “The decision to wait until this time to disclose his condition wasn’t vanity, but more so that the countless young children that would smile or call out to him “there’s Willy Wonka,” would not have to be then exposed to an adult referencing illness or trouble and causing delight to travel to worry, disappointment or confusion.” “He simply couldn’t bear the idea of one less smile in the world.” I couldn't help but shed a tear about this. Such a sweet, kind hearted man he was. My heart goes out to his family and close friends. I remember when I was little, I watched The Producers with my Nan and Pop. I don't remember much about the movie now because it was so many years ago but I do remember laughing so hard my stomach hurt when Gene was freaking out over his blue blanket. I always loved him in everything he did. I watched Blazing Saddles a couple of months ago and loved it. But of course, was a Mel Brooks movie lol This year sure has been a crappy one with all the wonderful people and talent leaving us. R.I.P Gene. xxxx

He surely is going to be missed. He was a great talent and extremely funny in the movies. I saw lots of his movies and remember them all. Don't worry about posting about this, you obviously felt strong about it. So nothing wrong with that.

@VivaLaDani13 I assume you mean a favorite Gene Wilder movie. Well, I would say there are a few. Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Silver Streak and a few others. It is hard to pick just one.

I watched Willy Wonka and found the character a bit scary The film I remember most was stir crazy...that was funny. But I was never that much of a fan. The comedy actor I miss the most is by miles John Candy...I loved Uncle Buck and watched it the other day for the millionth time

@Mike197602 I found the one with Johnny Depp to be friggen creepy lol lol Yeah I have Stir Crazy. Bloody awesome movie! John Candy was a sweetheart! I love Uncle Buck. One character he played though that really upset me was from Trains, Planes and Automobiles. He was a beautiful character in that but his story makes me sad. Ah it's just a movie! lol but makes me sad near the end when he explains his story on why he hasn't been home in years.

@VivaLaDani13 I haven't seen trains/planes...as I have a couple of days off coming up I'll get it and give it a watch. Uncle Buck rates as high with me as The Goonies...which is pretty high

@CinnamonGrl So sweet indeed. My pops mind is going just a little bit. That's hard enough so I can't even imagine what it's like to live with or watch someone go through the illness. Very sad.

@VivaLaDani13 Yes my dad is 98 and in a nursing home. He has "generalized dementia." He's got zero short term memory, but he knows who we are and all that. That is disturbing enough.

@CinnamonGrl I am really sorry! I am glad he remembers who you are though. That's a good thing from both sides! Just such a terrible thing to even think about.

I had not heard that about Gene Wilder, but from what I did know about his character, that totally sounds like something he would do! He was not only a great actor, but he was such a kind-hearted man!

He was a funny man. I don't remember much about The Producers since it was so long ago that i saw it. I do remember watching Blazing Saddles and thought the fart scene went a little too far. Other than that it was pretty funny.

@RichardMeister lol yeah I remember that. I do think that sometimes a funny thing can be so over done that it's just not funny anymore. Comedy needs good timing too.

Rest in Peace Gene Wilder. I have not seen any of his movies but I do know him from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and his reasons for not disclosing his disease are very admirable. He wants to maintain the delight of kids when they see him as Willy Wonka. What a sweet man!

@amadeo I hope that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be shown to kids nowadays. The newest one with Johnny Depp may be more known to the kids now. But hope they can watch the original to watch Gene Wilders performance. And thank you for stopping by! :)
