DOCTOR SEARCHING: Are you judgmental on your doctor's appearance before selecting?

I have an entire list of doctor's to research before making my final decision. To narrow it down I am looking at:
- Experience - The more the better
- In addition to experience, awards, recognition, and if they're featured as top in magazines, articles, etc.
- Gender, preference wise - I prefer a lady doctor
- Appearance - If they're very young, I probably won't select them because they may not have as much experience as someone older though
- I also research reviews from people if I can find any online like through the hospital or Yelp, etc.
How about you? How do you select your doctor?

I hope you find your new doctor! It isn't easy especially since there's so many to pick from! And, we have to make sure the new doctor is in our insurance plan, accepting new patients and will do a good job to accommodate us! Good luck

I don't. My sister is an OB Gyne. From the time was entered med school, she was the one who recommended the doctors for us. We trusted her for that since she knows who are the best and who has the worst reputation. Until now whenever we want to see a specialist, we ask her first who's the best in that field. And one added perk, we don't need to be in queue at the doctor's clinic. We get the VIP treatment.

@Iam_jauntyjen She used to have her clinic at the mall, but from the time she had her baby, she has her clinic in her house.

Oh my gosh! That's VIP service right there!
No doctors in the family here, but it'd be nice!
I would trust everyone (doctors) your sister recommends. Is she your personal doctor too?

That is very good you have top notch doctors there. Finding professional highly recommended ones are great! I like to find award winning, or well known ones that care for their patients.

I haven't gone to the doctors since I went mad and had to have medication
I do need a GP now as I've a few little health issues.
There is a doctors literally 3 houses down from me on my street...I think I'll go there as it has a good reputation and is convenient.

@infatuatedbby No, we have the NHS so everyone gets a GP free of charge.
We don't actually pay directly for any treatment on the NHS, it is funded through taxes.
We do have multiple health insurance companies so you can buy insurance if you want to.

Was there a reason why the doctor could not be trusted? I had a doctor that wasn't caring so I stopped going to her.

That's a good way. But - here, we have to be in the insurance because sometimes a friends doctor may not be in our plan.

I pay attention to awards and experience, too. Although, some of the newer doctors are just as good because they just finished their schooling so everything is still fresh in their minds. Also, they are more likely to work really hard and do a great job so they can do well in their career.

Yes, you're right! Ultimately I like a balance of both.
And everyday is always a learning experience for them too! I would be more concern if I need a specialist though.

It's ridiculous. We go to doctors for treatment and not for his looks.

@infatuatedbby I understand, mostly we have to first go to the company doctor who will refer you to other hospitals if necessary.

I always check to see what other people said about them. There are several sites were patients can leave comments about their doctors. I had a list of doctors I could see, and one by one I looked up reviews on them. The one I happened to read the best reviews of is probably in her fifties.

I am usually assigned one when I first call for a appointment. If I like that doctor, feel a good rapore, etc. then I ask for them after that.
