It's Time For Some Spaghetti

My brother makes the best spaghetti I have ever eaten. I just love it! He is making it right now and then has to go to work and I will watch it while it cooks. I can't wait to have spaghetti and french bread tonight. I know I will pay for it but it is worth it. Tomatoes are what they call 'night shade' vegetables (along with potatoes and peppers) and for those of us who have inflammatory diseases, it can cause one to ache and hurt. Because of this, we only have it once or sometimes twice a month. What are you having for dinner tonight? Anything yummy? *This picture is from Pixabay and isn't my brother's spaghetti*

You can make spaghetti without using a tomato sauce. In Italy we have dozens of recipes for spaghetti sauce, the easier, just olive oil garlic, chili pepper and a bit of chopped parsley. It's one of my favorite. Another is spaghetti with vongole (small Italian clams), here is a photo.

@sol_cee Tomato sauce is one of the way to serve spaghetti, but not even the most popular in Italy.

I think that's a common misconception: spaghetti equals tomato sauce. Now I know it's not always the case.

I hate spaghetti but sometimes I will eat it by buttering a piece of bread and putting the saucy spaghetti noodles between. Right now it is breakfast so I am having coffee.

@SIMPLYD Yes he does! He is a great cook. My cooking only involves the basics like meat and potatoes. My brother likes to try new and different meals. Now, I do love baking so that is what I do.

Our house did smell like heaven and I couldn't wait to be able to eat dinner. I did cheat and eat a few tablespoons of the sauce/meat during the day.

@simone10 Pork is hard to beat and it is a relatively cheap meat here compared to beef and lamb.

I know, it really is hard because I do love tomatoes. For some reason, I can eat a slice of tomato and it doesn't bother me but if I eat tomato sauce in a meal, I will feel it.

We actually had spaghetti tonight also, with a salad and garlic bread. My sister fixed it for us all. She used an Italian spaghetti that was thick and brown with a sauce like my niece made for her when they were in Italy. It was good but I truly prefer angel hair pasta. Saying that, I was glad to try something new and especially since it was good. It was a fun meal with all three of my sisters, our mom and two brothers in law.

@simone10 This pasta was way different! It was a kind commonly served in Italy but hard to find here. My sister tried to order it and it was $17 a pound, so skipped it. Then she saw it at a deli for $6.00 a pound and purchased it. Then she saw it at Publix's (in an odd location) for just $3.00 a pound, so she is set. It's her new favorite.

@simone10 that looks and sounds so good. Save some for me. For me, dinner will be something ground up. Last night we had chicken and dumplings. My husband put mine in the grinder and I had is the consistency of baby food. A few weeks and I can have it whole.
