Some of us are superstitious, oh I don't mean crazy afraid of everything, I mean mildly superstitious? For example, you hate when you break a mirror because it will give you 7 years bad luck or believe a black cat crossing your path means death. I am amazed at the many, many different superstitions that are alive and well out there. For example, did you know that it is believed by some people that if you say good bye to a friend while on a bridge that you will never see them again? I think many superstitions get their start when something happens once and people hang on to that happening. For some of them I am sure they are founded on a firm base while others such as don't step on a crack or you'll break your mother's back is based on something that isn't quite set in fact. Anyway, I was just wondering how many of you out there are superstitious.

Not even mildly. When I see a black cat, I stroke it. Never mind which direction it's coming from.

@MALUSE I tend to be the same way. I read about superstitions and want to know more about them but don[t think they are particularly true.

@HazySue "don't think they are particularly true." Why the word 'particularly' here? They're complete nonsense. Some are simply crazy! My husband is Italian. Once when we visited one of his sisters, I opened a wet umbrella when we came home after a walk and put it in front of her door to dry. She nearly had hysteric fits. An open umbrella in the house means bad luck!

@MALUSE I am just saying that people seem to believe that some of the superstitions are based on something that happened once upon a time.

I'm superstitious. When I was in high school my pocket mirrors they kept getting broken. Nowadays when I have a mirror I make sure it doesn't slide easily and I put it always in my handbag. I'm not superstitious about dark cats. I saw a dark cat months ago we looked at each other eye to eye. I made my eye bigger the cat looked at me with wide eyes too.

I try not to be but mom was very stuperstitious …. we always had to throw the salt over the shoulder when ever we'd spill the stuff and she'd never let us walk under a ladder.

@rebelann I think it was more common way back when. My mother-in-law used to throw spilt salt over her shoulder also.

I am superstitious about very few things, not a lot. But I can't completely deny its influence over me.

@HazySue I've actually seen some superstitious beliefs come true in front of me. Maybe it's a coincidence, maybe my mind.

@crazyhorseladycx I find that question is what fascinates me. How did they come into being.

I'm not superstitious at all. Some made sense (an open umbrella in the house is dangerous because someone might get their eye poked!) and walking under a ladder could definitely hurt if someone on the ladder dropped a hammer on your head! I'd rather put my trust in Jesus!

@1creekgirl some of the superstitions do seem to be based on common sense rather than fear.
