As I get older my minds seems to turn towards childhood memories. The good, the bad, and the ugly. One that seems to stick in my mind happened when I was about 6 years old. I had decided to go to a little friends house two doors down to play and did not ask permission. A little while later my friend and I were happily swinging in her backyard when my mother came angrily around the corner of my friends house. She grabbed my arm and marched me home yelling all the way. I was definitely in trouble. I didn't realize just how much trouble I was in. She took my favorite stuffed animal, Troubles, and tore his head off along with his arms and legs and threw him into the trash. I used to tell all of my secrets, troubles, hopes, and dreams to him. He was my constant companion. I slept with him. He was my special friend. I am not quite sure why I still hold this particular memory so close in my mind. I am normally a person who ignores the bad and the ugly memories of my life. This one I consider as both bad and ugly. I wonder if it is because I could never forgive my mother for this cruel action of taking away and destroying something that was so dear to me.

Wow this just broke my heart. I can see how you can never let that memory go. That was so cruel. I can't understand how your mother could ever hurt you in such a way. Yes she could have punished by doing what is did was extremely cruel.

I am surprised your mother did that.Does she usually show her anger like this? You were just a 6 year old kid.

@silvermist she did. She still does using her mouth. She frequently will say very hurtful things. Now as an adult I have long ago learned how to ignore them for the most part.

@epiffanie I am so sorry to hear that. It is miserable, isn't it? You do wonder just why they felt they had to be so cruel. I guess we will never know why.

Well, parents are like that sometimes, and some memories of them are ugly. It is cruel even what she did to your old friend. But other memories are loving and caring and you should focus on those more. Let the painful memories go, it has been a long time and its definitely not worth spending your present emotions on. Resentment sprouts resentment. No point keeping it all in.

@cahaya1983 my mother and I are about as different as day and night. I learned a long time ago to think before I open my mouth.

That is really over-reacting. She could hardly have done anything more devastating to you. How very sad.

Bad memories tend to stick around our subconscious for a very long time. You just have to forgive her and the bad memories will go away easier.
