I am so looking forward to Autumn, the colorful leaves, the cooler weather, and everything that goes with it. My husband is looking forward to Fall, the cooler weather, but absolutely not the falling leaves. As you must have noticed by now, I call the season Autumn while my husband calls it Fall. He calls it Fall because that is when the leaves fall off the trees and he has to rake them up. I call it Autumn because that is what I have always heard it called. What do you call it?

@HazySue exactly. I don't mind spring either but it's usually that time of the year when you can't decide what to wear. Either too hot to wear a jacket or too cold to be wearing plain shirt

I call it seesaw ..... we'll get a few days of cool weather then it'll be hot again for a few days, this seesaw climate lasts for a couple months and it occurs twice a year. In the past, I'm stressing past because it seems this year has proven that things aren't going to be the same, we'd get one really cold month for our winter and at least 5 months of really hot for summer. This past February we were already starting our spring weather, highly unusual and this has been a strange August and September so far, much wetter than usual ... I'm not complaining mind you, we needed the rain. I just wonder what this late seesaw is going to produce, hot, warm, cool or downright cold.

@rebelann and a very nice post it is. You must be working too hard. I do know what you mean though. would love for the weather to get back to normal when we had less summer, more fall, and so forth.

In our area of Ontario, we usually refer to it as autumn, when speaking of the season, but if we're referring to back to school, it seems like people are more apt to call it fall-go figure, it has to be a local thing I think!

@Juliaacv I guess it is a local thing. I do remember seeing signs saying "Fall Savings".

I generally call it Fall, but I may interchange it depending on what I'm talking about. Fall is easier since it's only one syllable, lol.

@ramapo17 haven't thought about it that way, but Im sure that would be the main reason for many of us.

@MarshaMusselman when I think of Fall I think of someone or something falli9ng. When I think of Autumn I think of the beautiful colors of the leaves.

"autumn" 'tis jest always seemed more romantic to me. back'n the hills 'f tennessee such t'was a spectacular time 'f year 's all the trees'd change to their autumn splendor with splashes 'f reds, burgundies, fiery oranges, pale peach 'n strikin' gold 'd blend, then highlight the greens 'f the pines 'n other e'ergreens.

The word Autumn is easy to understand, the meaning of the Fall should be further judged by the context deeply.
