Signal number 2, then 3.

the Virgin Mary in a gloomy day.

We had our case colloquium in school this morning. The presenters were my level 4 nursing students. They presented Congenital Hemolytic Anemia, from Pediatric Ward. As usual, I was the earliest among part-time CI's. When I parked the car, I heard some shouts from a high school building, just near the guard house. "YOU HAVE NO CLASSES"! A teacher said this to the students who were rushing to enter inside the classrooms. Indeed, when the typhoon warning is signal number 2, there will be no classes for high schoolers; signal number 3 for college students. 2 PM, strong rains began. But it did not last long. It was later announced that it is signal number 3 in the northernmost towns of my province. The good news is the typhoon will not make a landfall. It is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility tomorrow morning or evening; despite its increasing winds and rain fall. Another good news is, it is not raining now, and we did not have power interruption. We still have to be ready though, of possible power outage and rains. Does your local government have the last say regarding suspension of classes? Or is it your school that makes the announcements?

When I was still studying, it's my school that made those announcements. I have a friend on FB who is a college student, and their governor announces if there are no classes through FB. And he even asks the students if they had already received their allowances for the day before he will make the announcement. Hmmm The students seem to like him a lot because of that. Hihihi

@ridingbet I don't know who is our governor right now. LOL But maybe s/he is from the political clan that dominates the province. But they cannot conquer my hometown. Hihihihi They had tried to, twice, but never succeeded.

@ridingbet Here it is the Civil Defense that must say if the weather conditions are serious enough to stop the classes.

before, it is the school's discretion if classes should be suspended or not, but there were instances where the students with their parents go to school even in strong winds and rains, that suddenly, the school will announce a 'no classes'. now, it is the government, particularly the Department of Education that gives the announcement, also the Office of Civil Defense

The schools do. It's safety first for the students. We don't have typhoons, hurricanes, or tornadoes, but we do have blizzards which can be just as deadly if caught in one.

We very rarely have conditions that disrupt classes, but I assume it would be up to the individual establishment.
