'Old' Friends are excused from reading this - Gnomesville

This is rewritten from a Bubblews post. Many of my old friends have read about Ghomesville from time to time but I thought I'd write this for those who haven't heard of it. We took a friend there today and 'the village' continues to grow.
This whimsical place began in 2001 when a few gnomes were placed in the middle of a roundabout in the middle of nowhere. Well, actually it is where three country roads meet in Ferguson Valley, a locality in the south-west of Western Australia.
Then the gnomes began to multiply, the roundabout became a bit of a danger with drivers slowing down and rubbing their eyes in disbelief. The gnomes were then moved to the side of the road and have since expanded over at least 500 metres along the abandoned railway line which runs parallel to the road at that point. People have also placed gnomes further and further among the trees and creek alongside. Unfortunately this is private property and the trespassing is starting to annoy the land-owner.
There are picnic tables at the site and an information board. Puns are the order of the day and the gnomes come equipped with signs like 'no place like gnome, gnome is where the heart is, an gnomely child, home eco-gnomics, metro-gnome and saxa-gnome'. A number of organisations have obviously visited and placed their gnomes together with a plaque stating the year and name of their group.
It is a well-rounded community boasting a funeral gnome, a gnome empire and a gnome for wayward youths. There is a police station and a detention centre. There's a gnomosexual and a gnome-smoking area.
We take all our couch-surfer friends and visitors there – mostly just to watch their eyes pop. I hope some sensible arrangement is reached to allow the continuation of this tourist attraction.

Thank for sharing this so i could read about it. What an interesting place and the story of how it came to be. A very cool and an unique spot for gnomes of all shapes and sizes to gather. I can see why it is such an attraction and how much fun it would be to take people their for a visit.

As a geocacher, my first question would be, Is there a cache hidden there as well. I'll need to check. Sounds like something I would love to see. Much better than the numerous shoe trees we have in the area.

Yes, it is expensive to come to Australia now. But being so far away from some of the trouble spots is quite good too.

@JudyEv my Riley and Jared would just want to keep them and take everyone's gnomes home - they have a few in their garden as well as a nice Pink Flamingo that we bought on our trip to Kimberley. A few frogs and ladybugs too - summer is here so maybe I should be on the look our for another Gnome for the boys

I honestly don't remember whether I read your stuff on bubblews or not, but this is the first I've heard of this gnome village. It's too bad they couldn't find homes for the gnomes on city property somewhere that is easily accessible for the toursists although having them around in the scenery is a nice touch too.
The property owner could be making some money off this and charge fees for looking but that may be more trouble for him than he's willing to expend.

@JudyEv I think a lot of areas have stupid laws. American cities all have old laws that were never taken off the books and many are woosies. Did you ever read execcoach on the other site? She wrote about many of the odd laws still on the books in various cities in the US.

@MarshaMusselman I did read about many of the bizarre laws in some of your states. I wonder how some of them came into being?

I think I did read the original, but had to revisit this strange place. The landowner should open a theme park perhaps or put up a sign like "Gnome More Please."

That's totally gnomely. I'm sure your couch surfers enjoy that scene. I know I would, and love that picture. I hope some kind of agreement comes about with the landowner. I hope he isn't un gnomely.

The property owner should turn it into a gnome-themed park so people can continuously enjoy it.

With our Australian laws, it would be more trouble than it was worth.
