~Best Dad Award~

My Son Jackson

Last night when my husband got home from work I talked with him about the fact that he's always unhappy about our son leaving paper all around the house. I know it gets messy but at the same time my son loves making paper creations and I don't want to discourage that. So...after I said that to him he went into our son's bedroom and asked our son to teach him how to make a boomerang. Our son was SO excited that his dad wanted to be involved in something he loved! He still hasn't stopped talking about how him and his dad made this! =) Then my husband told all of the kids he wanted to play a game of hide and seek with them. They were very excited since they love doing that-especially with daddy! Overall they had a wonderful night with daddy and I am so proud of how he heard what I said and fixed the situation.

He certainly is worthy of the best Dad award. He probably didn't even realize what he was doing until you brought it up to him and rather then get upset he stepped up and made changes. He is a great Dad. I am so glad that they got to play hide and seek with him and just have fun quality time with Dad. Sometimes Dads get so busy with their work lives that they forget that their children miss him.

@Happy2BeMe Yes he is! I was so excited that he played with them and made time for his son's special hobby. That's what he said that he gets into work mode and then forgets to get out of that mode when he gets home sometimes.

You and your husband really sound like a team. I love that he understood you and what you were saying so well. That's special. It reminds me of when my family had my cousins over when we were kids, and my cousins said they weren't allowed to play with paper dolls like we were doing. Their mother said it was "too messy". Well the thing is, you put them away when you're done. But kids have priorities, lol. We did get in trouble for that sometimes, lol. Anyway, my cousins' mother was all about appearances, and I was always so glad my mother was different. I wanted to come back and add, this post really touched me. My dad really loves us, but he showed it differently, by going out and working hard for us. After his retirement, he was more sharing like this with my kids, and my Mama always said "I wish he would have done these things with you." But my dad's jobs were very physical and he got just plain tired. We get it. But it moved me hearing about what a good dad your kids have, and your relationship. Sometimes it's the little things.

@CinnamonGrl We are a good team. =) I was so glad he made time to change how my son was feeling-that made me so happy! Yeah, I let kids play and we will clean the mess after. I don't get crazy about a mess. Their supposed to do that!

That was good that he did that. Most men are tired after work. They just want to sit down and eat supper.

That was awesome of your husband to spend that quality time with the kids! I remember when my two kids were little I would be so exhausted when I got home from work, and they were just so excited to see me, but I just wanted to be left along to sit down and relax for a little while after a hard day. My wife kindly pointed out to me what I was doing (I hadn't even realized I was doing it), and I was appalled. From then on I made it a point to spend quality time with the kids every day when I got home from work!

@moffittjc That's exactly what happened with my husband! He had no idea what he was doing, he was just really tired and that's all he was thinking. Once I told him he changed what he was doing each day. Now he's doing awesome at spending time with them. Last night he made Teepee's with them out of spaghetti noodles. =)

@moffittjc Yes they had a blast doing it! =) It was messy but totally worth it. Building forts is so much fun too. We did that with cardboard boxes we have laying around. Lol

@LovingMyBabies Teepees out of spaghetti noodles? That sounds like it was a very fun activity! Which reminds me, I used to love grabbling sheets and blankets when my kids were little and building big forts in the living room with all the furniture!
