Wants and Needs

The more we see the more we want. Seeing our friends dress like movies stars, or our peers flaunt the latest gadgets around, or maybe just standing in the supermarket and looking at the stuff around we may end up with a huge list of wants.
We could impulsively buy stuff that might bring us happiness today but we may have to go hungry when the money runs out at the end of the week or have to go without paying our bills at the end of the month.
Wants keep arising as needs are met. Wants keep increasing as our resources do... When we know how to plug the want drain on our resources there will be plenty. There will be more happy people in the world if our wants are few..
Wants are plenty, needs are very few. When we meet our needs and fulfill a few of our wants we can be more than happy.. In making a choice between wants and needs may lie the ticket to a happy life.
Just my thoughts which I wanted to share with you today..

I don't base my wants or needs on what anyone else has. We have no needs, as we have all we need to live a happy life...and therefore we have all our wants.

@AbbyGreenhill Good on you.. I think its immature to base our wants on what other people have.. It happens more with a younger lot.. and of course there are exceptions.

@sofssu I know of lots of 'older' people who still pay the 'better than you game'....

I agree.. we need to be practical.. and know our limits when we indulge in getting our wants ..

@epiffanie Practicality and responsibility are the keywords. Being responsible to ourselves is very important.

The fewer wants the better I think. Less maintenance, less room, etc. Don't be like Sheldon on TBBT, he saves everything.

I quite agree and it seems that every place we go is determined to raise our desire to want things. I try not to give in.

@BelleStarr I hate shopping so I buy most of my stuff online.. That way I have less temptations.

it is important to learn the difference, you have to work more to pay for more, so its a cycle of never being happy if its about stuff

I agree with you. My needs are few as well as my wants. When I want something, I ask myself if I can afford it, if I will not get into trouble because of overspending and if I really need it. That´s a way of how to NOT get into having a loan or a credit because without it, I am happy. I am a happy person.

Yes wants do outweigh needs and we do need to weigh our needs before our wants.

Some people are incredibly materialistic and always have to keep up with what everyone else is buying. I think true 'wealth' has nothing to do with money. My dad always used to say money didn't buy you happiness. It just buys more escapism from misery. I think there's some truth in that. The best things in life are definitely free and it's surprising how little we actually need when we actually think about it. Food, warmth, shelter, love - the rest is just embellishment.
