the thoughtful film review

Myself and my Mumsy popped to the cinema today to see Ben-Hur. I haven't seen the original film with Charlton Heston, nor have I read the book upon which it's based, so I went in with no expectations.
It was good. I likey.
A lot of thoughts found themselves flitting through my mind whilst watching.
Is the character of Esther mentioned in any of the Gospels? Oh, 2016 female fashion seems to dictate that girlies must wear their hair Roman style. Would they really have snogged like that in public? I recognise him, who is he? Oops, those horses were a tad too CGI'd in that scene. Those Roman folk were a trifle evil. I wonder what it would have been like to live there, in those days. I bet he's Jesus! I was right! How do the galley slaves go to the loo? Ouch, that looked painful. Okay, that is not the same actor who was playing that character five minutes ago. Do they think I'm stupid!?
It was good. Go see!

I wondered if the Ben-Hur Esther is based on a Biblical Esther. I will have to read the Gospels again. I hope the Romans have changed!

@Poppylicious Do people change? Judging from the Italian government (that is in Rome), I have not this feeling.

I wondered if they just had to soil themselves because how could they disrupt the rhythm of rowing?! This thought made me quite sad!

The Heston version, which is great, was the second Ben Hur movie - it was first done as a silent movie - not seen the new one yet

Have you seen it? I enjoyed it. Unfortunately it had big boots to fill, and the critics are always going to find fault with the remake of an epic. Critics have too much sway over the success of a film.

I didn't even know they re-made the Ben-Hur movie! I must not get out enough!
I have seen the original with Charlton Heston, so I will be able to compare the new one with the original one. I hope it's as good as you say it is!
And by the way, Esther is mentioned in the Old Testament of the Bible, but not in the Gospels (New Testament).

I knew there was an Old Testament Esther. I wasn't sure if there was a New Testament one. :)
