They all Disappeared!

The Internet stole something from me that I can never get back. I wanted to see my old manuscripts and photos and they are nowhere to be found. Most of them are gone.
I especially am mad about my manuscripts which I put a lot of work into over the years. Some photos are not replaceable. They are gone from my Word Program, my computer, and One Note.
Do you know any secret ways to retrieve them, or are they missing forever? I would like to know any methods you know of to find them. Thanks in advance.

I am a little confused about where they went. Do you not back up your computer regularly? Where did they go? How did they go?

It is actually easy to accidentally delete something from a pc or tablet... The pictures and documents don't go anywhere. The link to access them is corrupted, making those items disappear from your view. The drive still has them, but you no longer have a way to find/see them.
All that happens when you use an app or program to "restore" a picture or document is that the app or program makes a new link to that item and gives it to you. Then you can access it again.
Yes, I've simplified what is really happening, but it makes sense to the computer illiterate and kinda explains what is happening. I hope I didn't simplify too much for you and that what I said makes sense.

@DaddyEvil I remember something about a thing popping up and asking where I want to store something. How do I know where to store it. On a shelf? I think it started things down the drain at that point. Obviously, I chose the path of destruction. Something similar to the election.

In my opinion, best thing would be not to write anything more on top of the lost data, as memory space gets re-used. There are some tools to retrieve such untouched data...
I lost my jottings on One Note due to sync between my PC and my phone (where the data was). Didn't try to recover though... love to hate these things.

@hora_fugit If you are still using the same computer, then there is a chance that the program I offered Jo Ann can still bring it back.

Oh, I'm so sorry. I have no idea how you could recover them. I have mine synch with my tablet, my phone, and my computer and not on the internet.

Who? Me, funny? What did I do?
Uhm... I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you realize that all your stinky old posts are probably still being held in storage in the archives, right?

Hmmm... most people don't intentionally lie to children... but a parent or uncle or aunt might remember something wrong, so inadvertently give a child the wrong information.... (Just sayin'!)

@DaddyEvil You are so funny. I wrote some stinkers on Helium and Yahoo before they folded. I am glad that they did because the stinkies are gone. Whew!!
And, there is all the wrong information recorded forever that I put in looking up my family tree. I think I remembered the wrong stuff from childhood or someone lied to me growing up. They would not do that, would they??

If it helps you any, Jo Ann, I have used this program before. It was easy to use and did a good job. I've used it on my own pc and on a friend's smart phone. I just used the free version.
(Somewhat silly name, but very good results!)
Good luck! (If you need help, please yell at me. I will help all I can!

I guess you can try to do a "file restore", where you try to revert your computer to a previously backed up version. However, I wouldn't recommend you do this yourself, as it's a sensitive operation and can do some serious damage to your system if not done right.
Best bet is to take it to a "restoration" specialist who might be able to help. There was a myLot member called Anne LeFlore (I think that's her username), she's an expert on that. @poehere

Hon? There is no need to go to a specialist with something like this. All she needs to do is download a recovery app and run it on her pc. Most apps like that can also work on a phone, disk or thumb drive, too. Whatever is plugged into the pc running the app can usually be recovered fairly easily and free.

@Drosophila Oh, my! You used a really bad program, then!
I usually get my programs from MajorGeeks. They guarantee there are no bad programs and no viruses associated with the program, too.
I gave the link to the author of that program's page. I trust it.

Thats a real shame.
Sadly I wouldn't know where to start trying to get them back but they most probably will still be on your computer somwhere.
I back every photo up to CM cloud.
Sorry I can't help more
