The lovely crocheted piece under the green glass was crocheted by my first mother in law. It is Irish crochet with roses in the motif. My mom made sleeves for my wedding dress the same, only with pearls in each rose. I have not the patience for thread crochet, but I love all the various pieces I own. I can crochet with yarn but it is bigger. I really know I could never do tatting it is even more fine. I know some of you here do these crafts and knitting as well. I feel envious.

My grandfather did tatting, he made fish nets, very, very fine. I like to crochet, this is something I usually do in winter.

Winter is a great time to do hand crafts. I never realized tatting had a practical purpose. That is wonderful to know that about your grandfather.

@GardenGerty Women in Italy make lace using this sort of pillow that we call "tombolo", I do not know its name in English. Have you ever seen it?

@GardenGerty how pretty, she did a beautiful job. I used to have the patience to do work like this, now not so much. Your wedding dress must have been beautiful.

I do not think I have ever had the particular enough eyesight for work like this.

I have a huge trash bag filled with crochet items done by my mother and my grandmother. I have one or two small ones out, but that's enough for me. I never wanted to learn to crochet or knit.

@AbbyGreenhill Or sold as part of an estate sale. Some people who are not family might enjoy having them.

@GardenGerty My issue now is I have no one to pass these things down to so eventually they will probably wind up in the trash someday in the future.

Oh how nice for your wife. Yes it does take lots of time even when it is done with yarn. Thread like this takes much longer.

I used to crochet in the 80s when I was a full housewife and there was no internet yet.

That is a very beautiful crocheted piece. A lot of time and hard work went into that. I am not very creative when it comes to stuff like that but I do love it.

That really is beautiful. So is the green glass, for that matter. My Nana crocheted, she made lots of pretty things. I didn't have the patience, and now my eyes don't cooperate. We do have some very talented needle workers at myLot.

I have a full sized "pineapple" tablecloth my grandmother made. Others in my family have done a lot of thread crochet. For me, it is an eye issue as well.

Some are very talented and can created great things! For some reason, all of us in this family have lost interest in such things.

Tatting is such fine thread it would be hard to be patient with it.

@GardenGerty I once had an ornament she tatted, I loved it, but it was lost years ago, and I do remember it looked like it was done with sewing thread almost

So do I as I can't even do knitting. I love seeing what people can do with it. That Irish crochet is beautiful.

That is beautiful. Only thing I can do is some cross stitching. I tried to learn crochet but to no avail. I tried knitting and well that didn't go so well either. Have a blessed day

I did not do well with cross stitiching. I could do stamped cross stitching but not counted cross stitch.
